1. Patrick Willis - Mississippi

Positives: Strength, speed, intelligence, and tremendous instincts. ... Plays with aggressiveness. ... Avoids being fooled by play fakes and misdirection plays. ... Toughness. ... Competitiveness. ... Strong effort on every snap.

Negatives: Not much for a player who is by far the draft's best at his position, although he must learn to make better use of his hands to fend off blockers.

Rounding off the rest are:

2. David Harris - Michigan
3. Buster Davis - Florida State
4. Brandon Siler - Florida
5. Zak DeOssie - Brown

I won't deny that he is one of the most talented players in this draft. But we have more pressing needs. Our linebacking corps is already one of the best in the league, and we need a lot of help on offense and in the secondary. Address those first.

undesratndable but u think the way the FO has been this year they will keep a 35 yr old ILB? i believe he is a FA next year as well.

No love for Jon Abbate? He has 'Zach Thomas Clone' written all over him. Smaller guy with great instincts and heart from a mid sized DI school. He doesnt get a whole lot of attention but with the way our system is set up for ILBs, JA should get a look or 2 in the middle rounds.

On a side note, Buster Davis would be a nice pickup. He plays with a motor like last years first rounder Ernie Sims but hits with more explosion. IMO, his size (or lack there of) has scouts overlooking his ability.

I like Buster Davis. I really do. But he is just 5'9". I mean, Zach is small, but 5'9"? I just do not know if he will be able to shed blockers. I mean, take a look at Zach in a blitz. He is horrible. Miami's system is set up for blitzing from the middle at times, and Miami's blitzing from MLBs in the past years have been less than stellar. To put it bluntly, blitzing from them was abysmal. Willis can add that blitzing ability from the center of the field. Imagine how confused offenses would be then?

I know this new regime has been letting go of a lot of familiar faces, but I don't see the FO dumping Zach Thomas. He and JT have been the face of our D for the past decade, I think he has earned the right to leave on his own terms. Plus, he has restructured his contract multiple times, so you know he won't be asking for some ridiculous contract. I could be wrong, but I don't see him playing football in anything but aqua and orange until he retires.

As much as I agree with you here, it just doesn't work that way anymore. Look at Willie McGinnest in NE. A staple of that D for years and let go when he did not fit the economics of the team.

Now if we were contenders next year I would hold Zach, but it's not the case. If the right trade was offered you have to run with it. The FO is in a good position because it's new (Cam and Muellers authority are anyway) and people are more prone to accept this type of change. A bigger Zach fan you will not find, but I can accept the current circumstances because the direct we are taking is clear.

Justin Durant out of Hampton could surprise some people. He's athletic and plays fast, but intelligent. Though he will probably go in the second.

I really hope that Zach isn't going to be traded. If he was it would be a major blow to our defense.

Ive never seen the kid play but he is definitely rising up draft boards everywhere I have read. Just from the reads Ive seen on him, he reminds me of a Boss Bailey type or maybe Julian Peterson. Can anyone give some insight or let me know if I am off my rocker?

If Siler slips to the third, I think he would be our best bet to sure up the lB corps.

I guess nothing will surprise me as far as who we draft this year......about the Zach trade rumor...I don't think it'll happen and I'd be sad to see him go...having said that, he's getting up there in age and if the RIGHT offer comes you'd have to consider it.

Ozzy rules!!

i sure as hell dont mind either and dont want him to be whit antoher team but im a realist. He isnt no Favre where he cna sit back n say i am MIAMI like he did wiht wisconsin. ZT didnt bring SB's and an unseen style of QB play to ZT position. plus its MIAMI FL where as comapred to Wisconsin a population of prob 100ks ppl or osmething lolll. (as Sharper said when he left for minny, back there, the news of hte week is who didnt' mow there lawn that week).

I've seen Zach in some clubs in Ft. Lauderdale, and I doubt he's 5'11. A shade under 5'10 wouldn't surprise me. We have so many other needs, but getting him in the 3rd wouldn't be bad. The problem is passing up on OL, WR, QB, and CB to do it.

I think we can all agree on the fact that Zach is the friggin man, but if none of the top 5 guys slip to 9, and I'm sitting in RM's seat. Pat Willis looks really tempting, even with other needs.

6'2" 240lb MLB's with 4.37 speed don't exactly grow on trees.

Man youve really got to start spell checking your posts, because that was the hardest thing to read.
