UK, March 27, 2007 - As expected, PlayStation 3 has become the fastest selling home console in British history, with 165,000 consoles flying off the shelves since it was launched last Friday.

Thanks to plenty of early stock - compared to the Wii and Xbox 360 - most people could walk into a store over the weekend and buy a console without any hassle. In fact, many retailers still have units available and the 165,000 consoles sold only account for a third of the overall UK stock.

PS3 comfortably beat the Wii and Xbox 360 launches, which managed to sell 105,000 and 70,000 respectively. However, while PS3 may be the best-selling home console, it still failed to eclipse Sony's PSP, which racked up a staggering 185,000 sales during launch weekend.

Sony would be wise to get that $100 price drop out asap.

There simply isnt enough quality game selection currently to warrant the price it has right now.

Those figures are misleading though, The Wii didn't sell more because they sold out but the PS3 didn't.

Oh and it's actually rmore expensive over there. Remember pounds are worth more than dollars.

They don't use pounds anymore. They use Euros.

I think they use both, actually. In any event, that article says that "the 165,000 consoles sold only acount for a third of the overall UK stock."

So, 2 out of every 3 consoles Sony shipped to the UK are sitting on store shelves? How can a NEW console, just days after launch, be easy to find? No other console I can remember had this happen.

The lack of interest in Ebay auctions also shows there is little demand for the PS3.

Am I way off base here? Sony SHOULD have been able to sell EVERY system they sent to the UK.

It's the PRICE of course.

Acutally the brits still use pounds, and it is roughly 1.9 dollars to the pound. I don't believe the brits will ever use the euro, their just stubborn like that. Ireland uses the euro, but they aren't part of the UK.

The price and the fact that it broke the RECORD should speak some volumes.

Because the Pound is worth more than the Euro.

Oh, it does. It tells me that EVERYONE who wanted a PS3 at 425 Pounds bought one.

Most of the rest will sit on store shelves until some better games and/or a price drop happen.

Sony should be concerned about this.

PS3 was nowhere near a sellout , 360 and WII sold out in minutes due to reduced stock.

Will be better to wait on 3 month sales figures and see how they compare.
