I think we may trade down to get him. A good tight end would fit nicely in Cam's offense ala Gates. Comments?

I just don't see us going TE with a #1 pick....we have too many other pressing needs

we could get Zach Miller in the 2nd round and he is a more complete TE than Olsen is IMO. I would love to have either though.

if it was up to me i would get olsen and get kalil and push to get qb kolb . most foklks around here are content with our wrs but i am not pleased to say the least . all we really need is qb , lt ,c, wr and te we are ok elsewhere.
the rumors out have us trading down and geting a lb but i dont know if i would go defense. at least not until the 4th rd.
if oakland gets carr and the browns get green then if we could trade upand get jamarcus russell that would be cool , however that is wishful thinking on my part. te isnt the biggest need but ,gosh darn it if a player can catch the ball and be a threat hell i would take olsen .:cooldude:

Which rumours are these?

"trade down". I wouldn't draft him at 9. At this point I am so tired that I really am beginning to care less who Miami drafts at 9. I think I am more interested in the total sum of players and if they meet the needs of the team.

You know I watch him and I ask whether he's as good as Jeremy Shockey or Todd Heap? And I just can't answer that in the positive. I grew up with the game watching tight ends like John Spagnola, Mark Bavaro, Doug Cosbie, Steve Jordan and whilst it's a different era, is he as impactful as that? I don't see it. If I'm drafting a tight end at 9, I want Antonio Gates or Tony Gonzalez or Dallas Clark impact.

I don't see Olsen providing that.

When I grade a tight end, I want to see a guy move the chains and make tough grabs and be reliable. I don't see it. I want a guy to be clutch on 3rd down. That's not Olsen; he's converted just 7 of 30 third down catches in two seasons. And he's inconsistent as a reciever; not only 'hand' drops, but allowing the ball into his chest and having it bounce off. And there were times where he'd make the catch and then have the ball knocked out before he could make a football move. Checking the numbers, he had 16 balls deflected out of his hands the past two seasons. That's far too many for my liking.

If I'm spending a top 10 or 15 pick on a tight end, I want to know whether he'll move the chains, whether he'll make catch after catch and whether he'll get down the field as a threat; his longest reception came against lowly South Florida and covered 57 yards. And I worry about his consistency as a blocker. He gets pretty high in his stance and can look really stiff. One scout at Indy said the following:

"Decent receiver but he won't block anybody. And he knows it, too. I talked to him at the Senior Bowl. First thing out of his mouth was, 'I know I need to block better."

I think you could move to 18 and still get him.

To me Olson is more like Bennett from TENN. Not really a true TE but a BIG WR. Word is cannot block.

He is not worth a 1st IMO, But other people will feel differently

This is a very weak TE draft and hes the best receiving TE in the draft, so any team in need of a TE its ether get him or get another guy evem more un diserving of the pick.
