View Full Version : With the #9 pick I think we need to get

I don't know, maybe everyone will think I'm crazy (besides his agent Drew Rosenhaus) but I think that #9 pick HAS TO address the offense.... I really think that if Quinn isn't available we should pick up TE Greg Olsen. I've been thinking this since the combine, the guy rocked the house and to me he looks like another Antonio Gates, which Cam would love. Here's my line of thinking...

1. Cam wants a receiving threat at TE who can line up out wide or be a threat down the middle.
2. With his size and speed he'd be a threat anywhere on the field such as Tony Gonzales.

I'm not a college or Miami Hurricanes fan but from what I've seen I don't think he'd be a stretch to go that high. I heard Drew say that the other day too and that Miami might be a team that would take him that high.

If you want offense and Quinn is gone, you need to grab a LT-Levi Brown.

TE has to wait until next year, besides we have 4 or 5 on the roster already.

Levi Brown probably isn't going to be a LT in the NFL but he might make a good, Shelton like, Gaurd. Not to be taken top ten.

It's going to be real interesting to see who slides to the 9th spot. If Petersen slides to us, do we take him if nobody trades down with us?????

The ideal scenario for the Fins is that Culpepper becomes the top 10 QB that many believe he can be. They draft Levi Brown in the first, a guard or center in the second, a WR in the second, and fill depth holes for the rest of the draft.

I'd like to see the Fins finally stabilize their OL for a few years.

If Culpepper really cannot be the guy, then Brady Quinn would be nice. The Fins need a good LT and a good QB. The only way to get both this year is for one of them to already be on the roster.

Why do you say that? I haven't read a single draft guide that doesn't rank Brown as the second best tackle in the draft. They all put him at LT.

If you Want Olsen then I would say to trade down and get an extra pick with a late-mid First to go with it. But I think we should get Levi instead with the nineth selection.

He is nothing like Tony Gonzales..... Tony can block. All Olson is is the rookie version of Drew Bennett a very big WR, he is a one dimension TE and that is a WR TE.

There is a much more versitile TE available in the later rounds, Not zack Miller but the kids name escapes me right now

Hellz to the NO. Of course is agent is going to pump his status up, no way he is worth the #9 pick.:sidelol:

Olsen will be a decent player but I don't think he is worth the ninth pick, especially with the amount of holes we need to fill. As for Rosenhaus hyping Olsen, what else is he supposed to do?

I agree, Brown is not top 10, and just because that's what we need is not enough reason to get less value for the position. I have stated this before, but the reason we are so short on playmakers is because we have been drafting for need for too long now. Draft BPA and you put yourself in a better position for trades since the average player is on the team for maybe 4 years. Looks like Peterson might be the offensive BPA when we pick, so I say take him. Somebody will need a good RB down the road and we will be in position to get more then we invested.

What is the infatuation with Olsen, I mean yea he is a nice TE propsect . . . but geez at 9? He needs to be superb @ both to justify that. He is an average blocker with great hands and speed (but he does drop a few). He isn't Kellen Winslow Jr. . . Winslow was an EXCELLENT blocker with better hands, better speed . . he warranted a high pick . . . Olsen is a first rounder as he is a better prospect than Lewis of last year . . . but not top 10 . . . even if we traded back somehow and got him at pick 20 . . . there is just other options we need to fill on this team, and there are some sleeper TE's later on to be found.

Olsen's college career wasn't even that impressive on paper.

yeah, I knew he didn't throw up any impressive numbers but what a prospect! Dick Vermeil said right on there that you can teach a TE to block at the next level, just like McMichael who wasn't a very good blocker and didn't have the raw skills Olsen has. But I guess that doesn't warrant a high pick... If you trade down you aren't sure to get him either.

As far as Levi Brown I haven't heard any raves on him and I trust Mike Mayocks opinion the most...

Olsen at nine might wind up being the worst pick in the draft if we did it. The guy was considered by a lot of experts as a second round talent before he ran that blazing forty at the combine. We obviously do need TE help, but not to reach that far. Zach Miller in the second round would be a much better value if we're looking to address the position so early. TE seems to be a position that you can still get good production out of in the lower rounds.

A lot of mocks have Joe Staley steadly climbing. Mel Kiper has him right behind Levi Brown. Staley may be one of the surprises in this draft.
