ESPN's rumor central had a few interesting stories pertaining to the draft. Apparently Tampa Bay is interested in trading up with Detroit for the second pick in the draft in order to take Calvin Johnson.

However, the deal may not happen because Oakland apparently isn't too thrilled with JaMarcus Russell and are considering using the first pick on Johnson and the first pick of the second round to target Stanford QB Trent Edwards. I've felt for a while now that Johnson would be Oaklands pick, but using the first pick of round two on Edwards seems way too high to me. I was hoping we could possibly land Edwards in the third, or possibly our late second rounder if we can't get Quinn.

The article also says that Cleveland is not looking to draft a QB, unless of course JaMarcus Russell, a longtime friend of Phil Savage's, is still on the board. Expect Adrain Peterson to be the pick if Russell is off the board.

One last interesting rumor is that Minnesota has been very quiet regarding Brady Quinn and could take him should he slide. It said that the Vikings think highly enough of Tavaris Jackson to not trade up for Quinn, but could still take him if he is there at pick 7.

Once again, these are just rumors and nothing said before the draft can really be truly believable. A lot of this could just be smokescreens, but its interesting nonetheless, so take it for what its worth.

Interesting about the Raiders and Edwards. Any word on whether he's worked out for them yet?

Interesting. I've been thinking about Minnesota recently as a potential trade partner for the Fins. A few reasons for this... they are not in our conference, we made a recent trade with them (Culpepper) so there is a history there, and my presumption that we will be outbid for the Redskins pick at #6 by a team which does not take Quinn.

The last part is entirely conjecture; I know Washington allegedly said they would take a 3rd rounder and flip picks with a top ten team... but if they get that offer from more than one team it could get expensive. So maybe Washington and Chicago resume talks and get something done, or maybe the rumors of New England acquiring that pick comes to fruition.

But if Minnesota would take Quinn if he's there, but they won't trade up for him, then they can't love him that much. At that point, I think their #7 pick is in play and we might give them a phone call. Just a hunch.

Here's more rumors and insight;

...Lions Coach Rod Marinelli wants to improve his overall team speed on his defense and is said to covet both DE Gaines Adams and MLB Patrick Willis in this Draft...the Lions will also be shopping HB Tatum Bell on Draft day and might settle for a third round pick in return for the former Bronco back ..... elsewhere...I pointed out that Daunte Culpepper's days as a Dolphin could be numbered back in my 03/24 blog... the Dolphins are entertaining both JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn this week and will make an attempt to move up in the Draft if one of the two slips down to the Redskins pick at #6...of the two...Brady Quinn is the most likely to fall....if Quinn is available when the Redskins pick at #6, the Dolphins will make an attempt to move ahead of the Vikings to land the QB of their future...Miami owns two second round picks and would sent their extra pick (Patriots # 60 for Wes Welker) to the Redskins as compensation for the move...the Redskins have been looking for a trading partner and want to move down in the Draft to acquire picks that they would use to fill needs on the Defensive side of the ball...the Patriots pick (via Miami) that they would acquire in the trade is fair compensation according to the Draft chart for the move......in my Wednesday 04/11 blog I'll let you in on a prospect that has moved into the first round of the Draft and an NFL running back that could be donning a new uniform in 2007.

Every year a QB "drops"....it could as well be Quinn this year. The Redskins don't have any picks and are said to be looking to drop down and acquire more...so you never know...:D

Truthfully, No matter who says what, I dont trust any of these pre-draft specualtions. I dont really pay much attention to any of it. We can talk about what we think each team ahead of us is going to do but when it comes down to it, noone really knows. We could either be setting ourselves up for a disappointment or excitement, we wont know until draft day...This is very painful

Where's that from Fishypete? You always manage to find nice stuff like this. Thanks, and nice find. Hopefully we can make that move with the Skins.

If he falls to 6 Im not so sure the vikings would draft Quinn. They already have Jackson and Houston has Schaub...SO if Quinn falls to 6 chances are great that he falls to 9, barring a trade up from another team below us that wants a QB

If the Lions take Russell and the Browns take Peterson then Quinn could possibly fall to the #6 because you would assume oakland takes Johnson, Lions take Russell, Browns take Peterson, TB is looking to trade out but I could easy see them take Gaines Adams, Arizona would take Joe Thomas in a heartbeat, Skins are another team trying to trade out if if Vikings don't want to trade up for him like the article says the dolphins have the firepower to pull such a trade. The #6 pick worth 1600, the #9 worth 1350 so the difference is only a 3rd round pick and a late 6th or 7th round pick. You could up the ante with our 1st and 60th overall and get their 1st and 5th round pick. It's very possible to trade up to the 6th overall pick without giving up a ton of picks. If Quinn is there at 6 you have to pull the trigger on that type of trade.
