I found this in an article on theredzone.org :

THE OLD SYSTEM

Miami is a hostage of sort to the Saban way. Because the coach left unexpectedly, the team was not able to recast its scouting system and the way it grades players.

''We still go about it the same way, we're using the same scale, we're using everything kind of the same,'' Mueller said. ``It's hard to change much midstream.''

But after this draft, Mueller expects to make changes.

''Obviously, we did it a little different when Nick was here than what we'll do going forward,'' he said. ``I only know what I'm comfortable with and what we did for years and years in Seattle and a couple of years in New Orleans. I can see us going back to some of that same structure because it works and that was what is comfortable for me.''

And what is comfortable for him? What is Mueller's philosophy for picking good players?

''I think the players that get me excited watching them on film, not in a workout, not in shorts running around, are the kind of players both Cam and I are looking for,'' Mueller said. ``And Cam and I have had this discussion. We get excited about certain players on film.

``That can be an offensive lineman. That can be a safety. It's hard to quantify what that is, but certain players are just fun to watch. I would hope we could get a few of those guys.''

I always like to see a coach ,player, gm using the style they are most comfortable with, things just seem to work better that way IMO. I guess we will not see the real Mueller till next draft ; wish he could have his way this year.I am not real familiar with how grading systems and scouting systems work to know if it will really change the type of players we look at;if anybody has any insight in this area I'd love to know more. Do you guys think this will affect the draft?

I don't think it will be that big of a deal. I think they are talking more about the way they rank players like on a ABC scale or a 1-10 scale. In the end Mueller is still ranking the players based of who he believes will be the best.

In someways it will affect our draft because the scouts that are in place now are the ones Nick Saban hired and they may have a different criteria for grading players than Randy Mueller does. Mueller and Cameron can only evaluate so many players personally and rely on information gathered by scouts for the rest.

Now i dont want him with the #9 pick, but that SCREAMS Ted Ginn.

I hate SAB(T)AN, but the last 2 drafts, in all honesty, were pretty solid.

Also not a big fan of taking Ginn at #9, but you are absolutly right, it does sceam Ted Ginn all the way.....kind of scary, if we are thinking of taking Ginn, I hope we are also thinking of trading down to mid 1st where Ginn belongs.

I agree, he seems to hint towards Ginn (he mentions speed a lot) in every interview he gives. IMO if Quinn slips to 6 or 7 then we will definitely trade up for him, if not I think we trade down for Ginn. I don't expect to come away from this draft without one of these players.

There are many players with speed who will be available at #9, not just Ginn. What about Willis, 4.38 in the 40? Randy could go any number of ways in this draft.

Mid 1st? IMO, late 1st.
