Holy crap at DS hardware and God of War II software.
PS2 best selling console of the month. Wow.
Wii undersupplied still. Hurry up and ramp up production Nintendo.
Very good sales for GH2 and GRAW 2 on 360.
Xbox officially dead; doesn't chart.
Motorstorm sells well but fails to move consoles. PS3 is a disaster.

Impressive.

Yes it is. The March NPD chart ended April 7th and the game released April 2nd. And the game is $80 with the bundled guitar, which is the SKU that charted. Very impressive.

It's because more games come out for the PS2 than the PS3. I totally undersrtand Sony not abandoning the PS2 for the PS3... But jesus. There's over 10 new games coming to the PS2 in May.

They're making so much money off the the PS2 (super cheap to produce) why abadon just cus the PS3's (stupid expensive to make) out? I mean, it only makes business sense.

Sony's not as effed in the A as everyone thinks.

Unless they cut the price of the PS3 in half by christmas (remember what the president of SCEA said? - not going to happen), they will be too far behind to ever catch up to Microsoft.

Sony will stay in 3rd place, at least for this generation.

Funny you should mention that. RIGHT NOW, developers have to decide which systems to make games for, which ones to give exclusives to. It takes 18-24 months to make most games these days.

Is Sony and the PS3 looking like a safe bet?

Hey, don't you go spreading your logic and common sense into this topic. You should try spinning the PS3's horrific sales like Sony instead. Like this...

"According to NPD data, March 2007 showed a 24% increase in retail dollars generated year-over-year for the PlayStation brand in North America with total sales of $447 million, due in part to the addition of the PS3 platform as well as the strong launch performance of God of War II for PS2 at retail. While PS3 saw a month-over-month increase of 2% with sales of 129,638 units, we continued to find ourselves supply constrained in March due primarily to the shift in manufacturing focus to the PS3 PAL version to support the launch of the system in Europe. PSP also witnessed gains in March, up 2% over February with sales of 179,796 units. The price of the PSP Core system was dropped from $199 to $169 in early April, which has received very positive retailer and consumer response. PS2 continued to be a strong performer in March, with unit sales of 279,866. On the software front, we were pleased to see sales increases from February for both the PSP and PS2. PS2 software showed a 29% increase with the launch of God of War II and PSP software demonstrated a 13% jump."

Actually, looking at the underlined part of the bolded sentence, Sony has gone beyond spinning into outright lying.

Never mind the March NPD was 5 weeks compared to 4 weeks for February, thus negating their so called 2% increase, but "supply constrained"? You can find a pile of PS3's in any store right now waiting to be purchased. It's more like demand constrained.

Until Sony drastically cuts the price of the PS3, they better enjoy their current position of 3rd place worldwide.

 at Supply Constrained. You just cant find those PS3's anywhere.
