I noticed Randy Moss is wearing jersey #6 I thought there was an NFL rule
on jersey numbers based on position?
I know a few years back they changed the rule somewhat so Keyshaw Johnson could wear #19 and now many WR's wear numbers in the teens, however to my knowledge single digit numbers are for QB's and kickers.

Anyone have some info thanks, not that big a deal just curious as to what changed in terms of the rule.

Yeah, I don't think he can play the season with #6. However, I think he can practice in these mini camps with it, but he needs to switch it before TC. Reggie Bush practices with #5 for the Saints before switching to #25.

Yeah, actually Reggie Bush petitioned the league to change the rule last year so he could keep the #5...he didnt win the petition:wink:

not sure this thread belongs in the Phins forum, but here is the info anyway.

NFL Rule 5, Section 1, Article 4)

All players must wear numerals on their jerseys in accordance with Rule 5, Section 3, Article 3c (see NOTE 1), and such numerals must be by playing position as follows: quarterbacks, punters, and placekickers, 1-19 (and 10-19 for wide receivers if 80-89 are all otherwise assigned); running backs and defensive backs, 20-49; centers, 50-59 (60-79 if 50-59 unavailable); offensive guards and tackles, 60-79; wide receivers and tight ends, 80-89; defensive lineman, 60-79 (90-99 if 60-79 unavailable); and linebackers 50-59 (90-99 if 50-59 unavailable).

During the preseason period when rosters are larger, the League will allow duplication and other temporary deviations from the numbering scheme specified above, but the rule must be adhered to for all players during the regular season and postseason.

Good stuff.

It always cracks me up when numbers are used more than once for players though. It always throws the announcers into a panic.

Good I'm happy for them. I really hope that Randy puts a huge black cloud over that organization, like what Ricky has done to this one. Were coming out from under the cloud and hopefully they are going into it. They may have just got too greedy, broke the Pat tradition and spent the money on the name and not the player.

Moss is a "superstar in his own mind". Yes he was once the best in the game. Now he is just another reciever and, when not thrown to as much as he thinks he should be, will be a distraction for this team. Perhaps this is the begining of the end for N.E. and the begining of the begining for the Phins to take over the East for years to come!

I wouldn't get too excited. The guy who wrote this ALWAYS a contrarian who writes almost nothing but negative things about the Patriots. He is known for trying to stir the pot and say outrageous things to get people's attention. And the other local writers who were at the mini camp were pretty much making fun of the guy for writing this article and that he was making a moutain out of a mole hill. Everything else I read about Moss from mini camp was largely positive. I even read from a writer that Moss looks like he is not trying because he does everything so effortlessly. Felger is just itching to prove Belichick wrong and tell everyone he told them so.

He got really excited when that whole thing about Brady contacted the trainer who gave out steroids or at least allegedly did surfaced. He was trying to make as big a deal out of it when it was a non story. Just shows you how this guy thinks. I have never liked him and I think he is a shock jock who has to sensationalize everything.

Ahhh, but consistency is exactly what it is. He was also Estatic to be away from Minnesota a few years ago, only to go to the Raiders (Who will pay anybody that performs) only to lay a HUGE egg...

Best offense in the AFC East?

Merril Hoge: New England Patriots
The Patriots get my vote here. It isn't because of the presence of receiver Randy Moss (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4262) but because second-year running back Laurence Maroney (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7770) will thrive this season. On the outside, he looks like a big physical back, but what impresses me the most about Maroney is his vision and quickness. He has the ability to pound through the defensive line, then run away, dance around a hit, or pound through the second and third level of the defense.

Joe Theismann: Patriots
Without question, this category goes to New England. The Pats have the best quarterback in football, and now Tom Brady (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5228) has one of the most dynamic receiving corps in football. Add that to a good, young running back and a solid, veteran offensive line and you have a great offense. There might not be an offense in the league that will be as exciting and efficient as this one.

Best defense in the AFC East?
Hoge: Miami Dolphins
It's hard to go against New England here, but I feel the Dolphins' defense is a little bit more formidable. The addition of Joey Porter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4723) adds more passion and versatility to an already fiery and versatile unit. I expect another great season from reigning defensive player of the year Jason Taylor (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3968) and a rejuvenated Zach Thomas (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=3569).

Theismann: Patriots
The Patriots get the nod here, too. They were very good before the addition of linebacker Adalius Thomas (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5215), but now they are devastatingly good. They have Pro Bowl-caliber players at every level of the defense and have the ability to switch seamlessly from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and back. Bill Belichick is at his best when he has the option to switch formations like that without any drop-off in performance.

Best team in the AFC East?
Hoge: Patriots
The best team hands down is the Patriots. The rest of this division is either too young or is going through too much turmoil to challenge the Patriots this season. In a year or two, this division could be far more competitive, though.

Theismann: Patriots
The Patriots have won three of the last six Super Bowls and still attacked this off-season as though they were trying to end a Cubs-like title drought. This is not only the best team in the division but the best team in football.

HOLLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god, he's a problem for New England because of a stupid thing like this? This is probably why Moss has #6.
10 -- Jabar Gaffney
11 -- Drew Bledsoe's number, respect, possible retired number?
12 -- Tom Brady
13 -- Brandon Childress
14 -- Vinny Testeverde return?
15 -- Kelly Washington
16 -- Matt Cassell
17 -- Chad Jackson
18 -- Donte Stallworth
19 -- Kelvin Kight
80 -- Troy Brown return?
81 -- Jonathan Smith
82 -- Jake Nordin
83 -- Wes Welker
84 -- Benjamin Watson
85 -- Matt Kranchick
86 -- David Thomas
87 -- Reche Caldwell
88 -- Kyle Brady
89 -- retired number

There are other WRs with single digit numbers too, CJ Jones is one of them. I don't think Moss is trying to be a problem, he wasn't on the team soon enough to get one of the numbers the NFL requires, he'll be assigned a new one probably when cuts are made. Seriously, you know it's June when stupid accusations like this come up.

Randy Moss

9 years Rec. 676 Yards 10700 Avg. 15.1 TDs 101

Let me break that down for you so you don't hurt yourself.

In 9 years-
Moss averaged 75 catches a year.

Moss averaged over a 1000 rec. yards a year.
If Moss never played another game, he has the stats right now worthy of the Hall of Fame.

What you guys don't understand is that if he really is a "cancer" then Belichick wil just cut him. It's not like he's been afraid to cut someone in the past. Moss is only making 3 mil this year and if he can't make it work in New England, he won't be able to make it work anywhere and his career will be over.

No doubt Moss has been a mal-content from time to time, but if you call a guy that catches 75 balls, for about 1100 yards and 11 tds a year an under-achiever, then I have to question your football IQ. There is no doubt that Moss can be a baby, but Phin fans are kidding themselves if they think he won't be more productive than what the Pats put out there at WR last season.

Over the last three seasons, Moss averaged 50 catches for 775 yards and 8 tds pers season. Now add into that that in those three seasons Moss missed 7 games due to injury and had QB's throwing him the ball that wouldn't make the Patriots practice squad, and I think you get the picture. The bottom line is that as much as Phin fans want to spin it, the Patriots are still getting a better Wr than any they had starting last year. Oh and I think Tom Brady just might be abe to get him the ball a little better than Andrew "soon to be playing arena league football" Walters. :sidelol::sidelol:

The DBs had very little if anything to do with what Moss did or didn't do in Oakland. How about the fact that the Raiders couldn't keep any one of their QBs upright for 5 seconds in most games. Any one who tries to base a player on what they did in Oakland over the last few years needs to take a long hard look at what has become of the Raiders in that time.

I'll probably be the only one here that thinks this story's getting overblown.

When it comes time to hit the field, if Moss is still half assing it, he'll be gone. Bill Bellicheck surely won't put up with that kind of bull**** from a player on his roster.

That being said, if Moss has any kind of brains in his head, he'll realize that this is without question the best opportunity he's ever had to win a Super Bowl and it also very well may be his last. If he's got a shred of common sense, he'll go in to this season and play the game, leaving the excess claims of half assedness in Oakland and will be a model citizen on the field.

His famous concentration is going to be off. I say let's invite Moynahan and the little Brady to the game, put him in a Fin outfit and put his little face up on the big board. His famous concentration is going to be off. I say let's invite Moynahan and the little Brady to the game, put him in a Fin outfit and put his little face up on the big board. Brady's stumped, the model is pissed and walking out and we win! There's a web site dedicated to dissing Brady, it's hysterical. Check it out:

Someone really has no life if they dedicate a site to mocking Tom Brady.

anyone mocking tom brady is rediculous. 99% of men would love to be him. the other 1% wants to be jessica alba's boyfriend.

I don't think Moss is going to stay in the shadow of Brady like the rest of the retards on that team do. Daddy Belichick and Grandpa Kraft expect all to bow down to Legend In His Own Mind Brady at all times. Moss ain't gonna go for that, mark my words. I hope he causes all kinds of havoc. The more in-fighting the better for the rest of us.

Nobody bows down to anybody on the Patriots. They all simply have one goal, and thats to win the Super Bowl. So far Moss has been great. He showed up two weeks before mini camp to start working out with the rest of the team. Then after mini camp, he stayed back to work on aerobics because he felt he was lagging in conditioning. Plus, like I've stated, if he creates problems he is gone. Simple as that. He has a 1 year, 3 million dollar contract. It wouldn't even going to put a dent into our cap situation to cut him.

Phin fans are so scared now it's not even funny.:sidelol::sidelol::sidelol: Most don't even get the fact that even if Moss was cut by the Pats today, they still would have a much better WR core than the one that was one drive away from the Super Bowl last year. :D

Yea, that is odd how the 100% doesn't include all men.

You guys are forgetting something major here. Brady and his off-season exploits. Listen before you discard this out of hand. He has a knocked up ex due to deliver at the beginning of the pre season-in CA. He has a hot supermodel who is not going to be happy with the new bundle of joy, not to mention being ignored while Brady concentrates on FB. This guy's got it bad, I'm tellin' ya. Do you Tom Brady on a personal level? How about Giselle or even Bridget? Do you have any idea what Giselle thinks about Brady being a father? Don;t you think she would've left by now, I mean she does know this is going to happen. You have ablsolutley NO idea what any of them thinks (maybe you should read a little befor eyou spout off on topics you know nothing about), this is just YOUR hope that it plays out like this because it's the only chance that your phins have at beating the Pats this year.

You people AMAZE me, you have no freaking clue as to how Brady trains and how focused he is about football. Is he not allowed to have a life other than football? When they were winning superbowls he traveled, was dating a hot hollywood actress (Bridget) and going to things like the State of the Union Adress as a personal invite from GW. But I gues that doesn't matter.

Go back into your delusional little world that makes you feel better about the phins chances against the Pats this year.

BTW, this thread was started over a number that a TRAINER gave to Moss to use during MINI-CAMP?? :sidelol::sidelol::sidelol::sidelol:
