It looks like some ps3 owners will be upset I just read that GTA4 episodic content will be a 360 only affair.

I don't think space has anything to do with it. It's prolly some shady deal between ol' Bill and Take Two that includes lots-o-zeros.

My bet is that 6-12 months after the episodes come out, they'll launch in the PS3. Either via downloadable content or a GTA expansion disc in store. Being that DLC is much cheaper to distribute, I'd guess that.

How come when Sony paid out the ying yang for exclusive games (meaning they wouldn't hit Xbox for a year or in most cases at all) it wasn't considered shady. Now that Microsoft does it and not even close to the amount Sony used to that Microsoft is now the shady/bad guy?

I'm seeing comments like that a lot lately and it's pretty ironic when no one cared about it last generation.

What is this episodic content? Is this something you can play? Should I even care that I can't get this on PS3?

The game's release date is October 19th on both systems. Episodic conent is more missions and stuff added to the game. Expect the first episodes to come out 1-3 months after the release.

That is a good move by Microsoft.

At first I was thinking, "Why pay a company to make something exclusive to you??!?!?" Doesn't that defeate the purpose of making money?

Then it hit me as I thought about it. Developement is expensive. Microsoft probably bit the dev costs (and then some) of said "episodic content" and then has full price control on what it'll retail for. Purely speculative of course, but it makes sense.

Not to mention, they mi ght sway a few potential Ps3 buyers who buy a console for the sole purpose of getting the latest GTA game to buy a 360 instead.

I agree ^^^ My original plan was to just it for ps3 since I know the controls and ect.. Now I will get it for my 360 becuase it will be same price just one will have more content in the future. So right now if mgs4 went to 360 although I don't think it will I will have no real reason for a ps3 atm.

This is what they count on. People to buy a 360 for it. It sold what? 16-18 million units last time? If it convinces 100,000 people to switch and half of them buy the expansions (which I'm hearing they will be pretty large additions including the last borough) that's a large chunk of change. Not to mention all of those guys who buy the things like charge packs and then extra games. It all adds up and definately explains why companies aren't buying exclusive to one game outright. $50,000,000 is a hell of a lot just for episodic content.

I'm just happy I don't have to wait a year for it now ;p

Yeah, it's a very costly move by Microsoft, but it'll pretty much assure anyone who wants to play GTA IV will buy an XBox 360 to play it. Instead of rereleasing a $20 "stories" version of the game like what was done for the PS2/PSP GTA games, they can just charge $20 for each of those episodes and it would be justified.

Still though...50 million. Wow.

i think on a deeper level, if they can get more installed units in homes... they win. I think they understand that.
