View Full Version : Teams looking at Darius

Former Jacksonville safety Donovin Darius (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12315), whom the Jaguars released June 14 after previously designating him as their franchise player three consecutive years, already is drawing interest around the league.
Buffalo, Carolina and Oakland already have expressed an interest, which shouldn't be overly surprising. No team has a greater need for a veteran safety of Darius' ilk than the Panthers.
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif Donovin Darius probably won't have to wait long to put on another team's uniform. Carolina's top safeties appear to be former fourth-round pick Nate Salley (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/420149) and veteran Mike Minter (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/12565). The Panthers could not add more safety help through the draft and now might be able to do it through free agency.
Buffalo's top two safeties are former first-round pick Donte Whitner (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/423565) and former fourth-round pick Ko Simpson (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/518597). Oakland lines up former first-round pick Michael Huff (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/413238) and former third-round pick Stuart Schweigert (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/493052).
Some around the league think the Eagles still could make a run at Darius, a former college teammate of Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/133361). The Eagles have been exploring the possibility of signing former Chiefs safety Sammy Knight (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/3794), who recently was released. Darius is considered a better safety, but he will be a pricier one, too.

Panthers should get him

I would love him in a Dolphins uni. Our secondary could use some help.
I just don't want him to go to the bills

I wouldn't mind picking him up but only as a back up. He tore ligaments in his knee in 2005 and then broke his leg last season. He's also 32 years old and appears to be on the downside of his career. Besides, I'm excited to see Bell and Hill play this season.
