The ESRB has issued an initial rating of AO (Adults Only) for Manhunt 2.

We believe the process of rating videogames is to help people make informed entertainment choices and not to limit them.

Manhunt 2 was created for mature audiences and we strongly believe it should receive an M (Mature) rating, aligning it with similar content created in other forms of media. We are exploring our options with regard to the rating of Manhunt 2.

I guess mimicking killing someone with a Wii-mote is a little too realistic and earns you the "AO" kiss of death for retailers. I'm sure they'll get down to an 'M' rating, but they gotta love the free publicity.

Edit -
Manhunt 2 is banned in Great Britain.

Ridiculous. It's just a damn video game.

I hate all this stuff about how kids mimic video games and movies and ****. If a kid is stupid enough to do that he/she has problems anyway and would have done something stupid eventually.

It should be rated M.

Gaming blog Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/gaming/original/nintendo-nixes-ao-manhunt-270741.php) initially received a message from Nintendo, emphasizing the company's broad range of games and ratings. However, the company plans to maintain its stance on disallowing the presence of AO-rated content on any of its systems.

"Games made for Nintendo systems enjoy a broad variety of styles, genres and ratings. These are some of the reasons our Wii and Nintendo DS systems appeal to such a broad range of people. But as with books, television and movies, different content is meant for different audiences. That's why the ESRB provides ratings to help consumers understand the content of a game before they purchase it. As stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO-rated content on its systems."Sony concurred shortly thereafter by issuing their own similar statement (http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/adults-only-manhunt-2-homeless-270768.php):

"For questions or comment regarding the rating of Manhunt 2, please contact the publisher, Rockstar. Currently it's SCE's policy not to allow the playback of AO rated content on our systems."

looks like manhunt 2 wont come out unless they are able to bring it down to an M rating.

I do agree with Alex44 about people (not just kids) use the excuse of where they got there idea from is dumb. They would have done the exact same thing on there own or something just as stupid eventually. it's a cop out. All of us here play the same video games and and watch the same movies for the most part. Grand theft auto, saints row, halo, any shooter really, and any movie with violence. None of these makes us go out and mimic what we've just seen. Why? because we are law abiding citizens that have respect for one another and ones belongings.

It is truly a fallacy, an argumentive tool.
