SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Frank Gore (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7241), the San Francisco 49ers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sfo) Pro Bowl running back, broke a bone in his right hand Monday during the first padded practice of training camp and might not play in the preseason.

He should be ready to go by the start of the season but he won't get much time to fully prepare.

Let's see if his hand will be able to fully recover before he starts getting hits.

If I'm a coach of an opposing team facing Gore, I'm making a note of this injury and I'm going to test his hand.

This is why I don't start my fantasy draft until August 25. Injuries will happen from now until then but at least we'll have a good idea as to who isn't hurt in late August.

Gore was a favorite pick of mine last year. Hopefully he'll be alright to go this year

That sucks about Gore, he is my favorite non-dolphin player

sounds like the same injury Ronnie Brown had last year. Brown only missed 3 games and came back at 100%. So, this doesn't sound serious

I knew before I opened this that nearly every comment was gonna be fantasy-related.

Wow I was thinking about setting my fantasy league up to draft this week just so I can scratch my football itch but after reading about Gore, I will probably hold off til after the second week of the preseason.

Man I feel bad for the guy. He is ALWAYS getting hurt somehow. All world talent though.

He should be good to go in September.

Why else would we give a damn about him?

I read somewhere that he may be back by the 2nd or 3rd preseason game. They are really having issues with their 2nd and 3rd string backs right now. Sorry, no link. I was perusing 49ers message boards to see how Patrick Willis is doing.

(Just in case anyone cared)

Patrick Willis is having a TREMENDOUS camp from reports. He is looking very fast and already has 2 INTs in 3 days of camp. He is also blowing by everyone who tries to block him, especially on one-on-one drills. He's also knocking people's heads off in camp.

He'll be back by week 1 so it's cool. At least now Robinson and Hicks can practice with the 1st team
