Not my draft.

Two interesting points of note here: 1) They have Miami trading our 32nd overall pick to Detroit for DT Shaun Rogers. Personally, I think that's way too high. 2) They have Atlanta giving the #3 and #34 overall picks in 2008, plus the Falcons second rounder in 2009 for the Dolphins #1 overall pick in 2008.

This presumes the Falcons land the #3 pick overall, which won't be determined till the Combine with a coin flip. As this is a mock draft, there is no mention of any discussions between Miami & Atlanta in regards to a trade at this point. However, they are in different conferences, which is never a bad thing when contemplating the possibility of a trade.

This person's speculation has me intrigued. I'd much rather have the #3 and #34 than #22 & #28, given the choice. We could attempt to trade the #3 again if we wished, maybe moving down just into the 6-10 range, grabbing a player we like and picking up some more picks in the process. Or stay where we are and take the best player not snatched up by Atlanta & St. Louis at the #1 & #2 spots.

Some might say there's no reason for Atlanta to do this, because if they stay at #3 (coin flip) and Miami goes defense (likely) they are assured of either McFadden or Ryan. Miami and Atlanta are both bad teams right now, but Parcells isn't aching for a star right now--just good players. Atlanta had a mega-star and now he's in the slammer. Last time I checked, there were a whole lot of #7 jerseys in the crowd in Atlanta. They need a star for marketing purposes and they need a star to help erase the stigma of the Vick situation, possibly even more than they need to win right away... although ideally they'd like to do both.

Should the Falcons fall in love with either Ryan or McFadden at the Combine & private workouts, and they have a strong preference as to which one of them is the star they need and a potentially great player to boot, they might not want to get whatever sloppy seconds fall to them. They are a team, unlike Dallas, that needs to make a splash. And moving up to #1 would certainly do that.

i think atlanta is not a good option to trade with and its highly unlikely because of one reason they need a stud at both QB and RB and ONE of two prospects will drop to them and they can build around...whether it be with the arm of Ryan or the legs of McFadden...the ONLY way they trade is if one or the other does absolutley horrible in personals and at the combine. If Dmac does wonderfully...look for Atlanta to be F****** because at that point Jerry Jones would be knocking on the door with two first round draft picks....if Ryan does wonderfully look for Miami possibly to keep him for ourselves.

The reason I think they are as valid a trading partner as anyone is based on the presumption that they will have a strong preference between the QB and the RB. That was one of the points I was trying to make--they need to kill two birds with one stone. Smooth over the Vick fiasco with a new marketing hero and get a great player.

If they don't care which one falls to them, then they can stay put and take that guy. If they do care, they might be willing to move up to ensure that it happens. They have the ammo to do it; I don't know if they have the interest. McFadden having a great combine and/or personal workouts raises the stakes for them, because as you pointed out, Dallas (not to mention others) could become more interested as well.

I was thinking shaun Rogers is a FA??

IF we could trade down to 3 and pick up another 2nd rounder...that would be an absolute dream We would still have our pick between Chris Long and Glenn Dorsey and pick up a top notch LINEBACKER and Olineman/TE...

It's very hard trying to trade down once, let alone trying to trade down twice....then when you throw in multiple teams you can almost gaurantee there will be something/someone who will put a stop to it. Very rarely do these rumored trade downs have much validity. I think the only team we might be able to deal with is Dallas.

not if they lose the coin toss and end up at #4. OAK would draft macfadden and MIA would draft matt ryan. so if they "lose the coin toss" look for a phone call. :woot:

Here's to hoping ATL loses the coin toss. because i dont want to fall so far down. i'd rather have the #4 and #36 picks then the #22 and #28.

if ATL ends up at #4, they would have to trade up in order to draft either matt ryan or darren macfadden.

True. I'm hoping all the players at the combine test off the chart. Teams will gain and lose interest in trading over the next 3 months... so the more players that appear worth moving up for the better situation we are in.

I would like to Trade for D. Hall, C. Johnson, and S. Rogers i think it could happen if we trade down with the falcons for D. Hall and they get our #1 and we get there #3 and D. Hall and then we trade a scond for C. Johnson and a 3rd or 4th for S. Rogers

Why trade for Rogers he is lazy and fat and last I checked Detroit defense wasn't all that good. But as far as D.Hall & C.Johnson I'm all for it.

I didn't like the part about Rogers, either. If he was a FA, that's one thing. But to give up a pick on him, pay him a lot of cash, and hope he doesn't flame out on you is more risk than I'm willing to take on him. I'd rather grab someone from the draft with that pick and groom them to be the kind of player Sparano, Ireland, & Parcells would want playing for them. We'd be better off, and should get more life out of the pick.

Excellent observations and well said! That would be a very good move for them, plus it would still leave us in a position to acquire a top flight player for our roster, at a much reduced cost! Great post, Finch!

O/T: To bad they pulled Threshhold, I really liked that series!
