I'm watching the college football allstar challenge on espn and he looks great. Im not trying to put too much weight on such a laid back competition but he's easily overshadowing the likes of ryan, brennan, and henne. He lazily threw a 74 yard pass and won the qb scrambling comp. at 6'6", 230lbs. I would love to have him but our qb situation is so confusing at this point with all of the needs we need to fill.

I like him too. Ryan is the safer bet but Flacco has the higher ceiling

i like how smooth flacco throws the ball, its a lower release, but very fluent. and he seems more mobile than people have spoken of

Rotoworld says different.

9. Joe Flacco (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4677), Delaware

Height/Weight: 6'6/232
College Experience: Fifth-year senior
Projected 40: 5.0
Comparison: Andrew Walter (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=3148)
2007 Statistics: 331-of-521 (63.5%), 4,263 Yds, 23 Tds, 5 Ints, 4 Rush Tds

Positives/Negatives: A classic dropback passer, Flacco has possibly the strongest pure arm in the draft. His accuracy at Delaware was solid, but Flacco faced weak D-IAA competition. He possesses tremendous size and is hard to bring down. However, Flacco played in a shotgun-heavy offense in college and struggled taking snaps from center at the Senior Bowl. His footwork is poor, and he has a slow dropback. Flacco also lacks any kind of mobility.

Lewin on Joe Flacco (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4677): Flacco's inability to beat out Tyler Palko (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4499) for a starting job at Pitt sends up an immediate red flag. He posted good numbers in two seasons, but they still weren't on McNair or Chad Pennington (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=858)'s level. You want D-IAA guys to dominate like Josh Johnson. Flacco carries a lot of risk, and isn't worth a first-day pick.

Verdict: Flacco was behind Tyler Palko (http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4499) on the Pittsburgh depth chart early in his college career. He transferred to D-IAA Delaware, sat out the 2005 season, and began starting in 2006. Flacco has some intriguing tools, but wasn't good enough to beat out a quarterback that ultimately went undrafted and likely doesn't have a career in the NFL. Using reason, the idea that Flacco should be a second- or third-round draft pick is illogical. Flacco is more of a second-day to late second-day prospect who should be viewed as a project, not relied on to play within the next two seasons.

this whole things was interesting. i totally agree, he definitely gonna need to work on footwork and also reading defenses during dropback from under center (all he not used to due to shot-gun system he has palyed under). he obviously has the strongest arm in the class, but intermediate accuracy was a little off, throwing behind WR's often... maybe timing or footwork, not sure. otherwise he was a little more mobile then i expected, and if he can slide in the pocket when feeling pressure (like Marino) then there no problem.

i was always curious though why he left Pitt when he didnt get the starting nod. that part is definitely interesting, but he got to play non-stop in Delaware.

I'm a little concerned about the competition level as well.

I can't imagine the jump from div1AA to A, let alone the jump from Div1AA to the nfl.

I have said all along he has tools, but he is nothing more than a project right now.

how much money do you want to pay a guy to sit for a year or two before he sees any significant amount of action. Not first round money for sure.

We have a lot of holes, I'm not sure how parcells will go about the qb position. I don't look for us to take one anytime before our SD pick in the second round.

Our first second rounder I am really pulling for a CB. secondly would be an OL preferably a LT, but that may be wishful thinking. It all depends on who we take with the first pick.

He did fairly well against Appalachian state during the final game. No interceptions thrown also got some good long balls out there. Not too sure if his team let him down or if Appalachian was too much for him to handle.

Then again, we know that Dave Wannstedt is the worst evaluator of talent...ever.

Exactly. To me it shows tremendous judgement to jump ship when the pornstache showed up. We all remember what he did to the Phin offense. My bigger concern is not that he left, but that he didn't get into a bigger program. I wouldn't mind seeing him, but no earlier than the 2nd day.

I've watched him play live for two years, and I would complete agree with rotoworld. Flacco is late second day pick IMHO. He has a pretty good arm, but a lot of his throws were underneath to Cuff. He worked out of the gun for his entire time at UD, and I don't think he can perform in the NFL. His highlights show some great throws, but there were many times when he just didn't get the ball out when he should have down field and just dumped it off to Cuff, who would break one for 10-15 yards.
