This is getting ridiculous, i am on my third Xbox360, the deadly 3 red light syndrome. I heard the new ones they are sending out are alot more solid and even have an HDMI slot. Amyone having the same issues?

Where are you keeping your XBOX?

I know that MS usually either repairs your system or sends you a refurbished one, probably contributing to the repeating failures.

good question, where are you keeping it?

You really have to keep that system out in the open air. The 360 has an insufficient cooling system, and you have to do everything you can to help it. Don't keep it in a cabinet or inside an entertainment center. I have my ps3 up vertical on top of my reciever in the open air. I have a small fan blowing cool air at its back. I plan to do the same with my 360. I am going to call it my Two Towers.

You should just demand a refund. Three times is a bit much.

buy a wii. nintendo systems dont break.wanna bet. PM a guy named thestern. He's my old roommate. He's had to return his Wii. and Nintendo's return policy/system isn't as user friendly as Microsoft's .

Granted, Microsoft got to practice it on 10 million customers already.

Seriously though, true story. I know it doesn't happen alot, but it CAN happen. It's an electronic device, anything can happen.

i had an intercooler on one of mine. it still broke. but, i thought i read a report where the intercoolers are insufficient in terms of providing enough circulation. dont know how, but whatever. dont know if they can actually harm your system, but i do know i wont buy a 3rd party add-on. just keep the 360's in open space (like like the place teddy ginn needs to have the rock) and you should be fine.

hey, lemme know how the intercooler works out for you..

TheAnswer385

The people at Microsoft said not to use the intercoolers. They also say that you are not suppose to use surge protectors with the system because the 360s power supply has one built in. They told me to send my power supply in with my system as well because it could be faulty now. I never heard of this until I called mine in the other day. They also said that the shipping will be faster than before. Said if i don't plug it into surge protector it shouldn't go red up on me again.

I havent had a problem though.

That looks a lot better. I have something pretty similar to that. My roomte swears by these fans and somehow his has never died on him, so i went and got one also. I dont know what it is about the intercooler but those things are murderers, this one looks like it will work though.

It's also important not to taunt your 360 or feed it after midnight. Reading it a bedtime story at least twice a week is also highly encouraged by Microsoft.

General rule of thumb:

-Don't stack it on other equipment
-Stand it up! If you don't you've got half your venting covered.
-Make sure it's not enclosed (ie: entertainment center with doors), with 6 inches of room to the sides and above
-Do not put it on a carpet (Friend of mine wonders why his kept dying. Idiot kept it on a carpet. Been fine since he stopped doing that)

Mine sits on the floor (no carpet) next to the tv stand.

I think the best advice for a 360 owner is to stand it up. I wish i had data that compared stood up 360 failures vs. layed down. I really do believe it makes a difference.

Would you know if the Cooler is bad for the PS3 by any chance? I've had one on mine without any problems, but I dont want to be killing it by using it. thanks for any info

To each their own I guess...

I have had an intercooler attached to mine for 2 years and my 360 is still running. (bought March 06)

The newer ones now come built even better since the connectors are now made out of metal and not plastic like before. The 'EX' model I believe.

It blows air through the system pretty well as I can even feel it from the holes on top of my 360 and on the side.

Just by placing my hand around the console with the cooler compared to without it, you can feel the difference after just an hour of Gears.

I can honestly say that, at least in my experience, if it wasnt for the Intercooler my 360 would be dead by now with the beating its taken.

Well I'm sad to say that I can add to this topic now. I just went out and bought Vegas 2 and started up the Xbox (which is a refurb sent by MS to replace my first that died) and low and behold in the middle of the pregame montage my console died....

Just ****ing great....now I have to wait another month to play a game I already own.

they send them out alot faster now.

I got back from vacation last week and sent it back to them and it was there in one day from PA to Texas. So they are trying to cut the time down quite a bit with overnight shipping.

ahh yours went down too? No wonder I haven't seen you on. How many is that for you now?

It just sucks for me. I just got back from Vegas yesterday morning and have been dying to play this game. I went right out and bought it along with a battery charger kit ($100 total) and sure enough the console dies within the first 40 seconds.

I have the Pro. I'm not sure if the elite model shares the same bad design or not, but I would assume that it does. Maybe someone can tell us for sure.

well I was away on vacation for 2weeks and it broke while there. So I called and had the box sent to my house and sent it back when I got home. This will be my second system. I heard the Vegas solo missions are nothing to write home about but it does have co-op and however I guess the multilayer is pretty good or so game trailers tells me.

Elite is supposed to have the new chips that prevent overheating like the normal console. However, I know no one with an elite, so I can't verify that.

My roomate has an elite, he's had no problem with it. Elites do seem to have fixed the problem, that or they're just so new still that it hasnt bee noticeable.

Heres the link that takes you to the MS XBOX LIVE website forum posts about what to look for etc. etc. to make sure you get one of the newer consoles with the new boards that are supposed to be more reliable...
