Pick Analysis: The Dolphins traded up to get Murphy. This is a good, solid pick at this point in the draft. He's versatile on the offensive line. Murphy is mature and has great size. In Miami, they are going to want to pound the ball and he is not only strong but tough, smart and can change direction. He could be in the league a long time.

Check out the video on the top left!

Versattile guy has played tackle and guard. Still has plenty of room to grow. Played DE in High school

Anthony Collins, Carl Nicks and Roy Schuening were still available and we draft a 25 year old guard? :shakeno:

He'll be 26 years old by the end of the year, but he's mature:foundout:

He sounds over drafted --- especially with us trading up to get him...

He's a "project" at he's already 26. I don't get that one.

Agreed, Sporting News Magazine says Collins is better! What the F!

(Sarcasm)

Imagine if we had drafted the DE the Titans got, not even LISTED on the list of projected draftees published by the NFL. You all would have shat your pants.

Watch some of the guys that you would have preferred go undrafted. Happens all the time. Remember Ernest Shazor? Round 2- get him here! Round 3- must get him here! Round 4- OK, if they dont get him here, Ill puke. He went undrafted and now works at McDonalds.

Dolphins MUST love this guy, let's hope there scouts made the right call

He was highlighted quite a bit before the draft and the Dolphins sent staff at his pro day. He is the son of Dale Murphy, the Atlanta Brave. So the Dolphins were aware of who liked him and that they liked him.

the sporting news had him ranked right behind John Greco, and say that he will prove to be the best of the 2008 class(taken out of sporting news draft guide)

you'd think this was Logan's Run with all the age bashing. he could realistically play for any where from 5-10 years still. that's plenty for a 4th round pick.

Man, what the heck? I know so much more than Parcells and company know about the draft. I know I haven't rebuilt a team and made them contenders, but Parcells is just stupid with these choices! Henne? Langford? Murphy? I could have done such better!

/sarcasm

Seriously, Parcells and co. know what they're doing. They've studied these kids, they know what they can do, and they feel that they can fit into Parcells' vision.

Agreed! with all the top guards and some 2nd grade tackles left on the board, why trade up for this guy?

I can't find what we had to give Chicago...something next year?

"Bottom line: Murphy, the son of baseball star Dale Murphy, has all the tools
to be a good NFL starter but will need time. He still is learning the
position after switching from the defensive line before his junior season.
It is rare to see a player with such limited experience at guard display
such good instincts and awareness. Murphy won't be the first guard drafted
but ***in time will prove to be the best of the '08 class***."

People keep saying this guy had this grade and that guy had that grade. Whose grade are you referring to? The one placed on them by Sporting News, Kiper, McShay, etc etc?

I can guarantee you Parcells and every other team in the league has their own set of grades for these guys. We always see guys fall and say what the hell is going on? It's because the Media builds them up and gives them a "grade", and we assume the teams are going to draft by that scale. Instead of panicking and second guessing every pick, be happy we aren't chasing the Jamar Fletchers that previous regimes did.

It does give me confidence that Sparano was an O-Line coach and that he can pick exactly who he wants with what abilities he has. I still want to know what we gave up. These guys are graded into plateaus of talent and trading up to get #6 over waiting 5 picks to get #7 doesn't add up mathematically.

I like the idea of a new O-Line left side.

Richmond Webb and Kieth Sims rewind!

You know, last time I checked none of us on these fan boards were GM's, scouts, former GM's, former scouts, or anything related to actually rating NFL prospects/players. In fact last time I checked we were all, wait for it, FANS! We really don't know what Parcells or Ireland think about these guys, all we know is what is printed or reported on whatever website you want to look at, and what highlight reels show us on youtube. So maybe for once everyone should just shut up, sit down, cheer on the Dolphins like you should, and let those who are in charge do their thing. Honestly, it's not even time for mini camps and you guys are already b**ching about certain picks. Do I like all the picks, not really (I disagreed with the Henne pick, but that's because I really like Beck), but am I throwing a tantrum when our management does what they are being paid to do? NO! So how about we all calm down, do something productive, and wait a couple of years before we complain about this draft, using our wonderful 20/20 hindsight.

Murphy was humble as he addressed questions from us over the phone about how he felt becoming a Miami Dolphin and the fact that the team moved up to take him.

Chicago acquired the Dolphins' first pick in the seventh round (No. 208 overall) to switch spots with Miami, and the 6-foot-3, 320-pound former defensive end indicated that he had good conversations with Head Coach Tony Sparano and some of the other coaches.

"It's an honor to me first off to be drafted by any team at any pick, let alone the fact that they traded up to draft me," Murphy said. "I also feel a responsibility to the organization and in a way to me it feels like you're indebted to them to prove yourself as a player and to become the player that they want you to be."

lol@people caring that hes 25... people are too held up with the age thing... if we have a guy play for us for 10 years, thats much better than drafting a 22 year old who is out of the league in a year

I kinda like this pick. He's a big guy who is a good at run and pass blocking. In the last 2 seasons, he has 216 knockdown blocks and has played both tackle and guard. Also, he has only given up 3 sacks in 570 career passing plays.

Sure, i probably would have gone Anthony Collins if i was looking OLine b/c he can play LT, RT and possible guard, but they chose Murphy. They wanted a guard to challenge those on our roster, and took a Parcells-type LARGE guard.
