I was very young and some of you had not yet been born when this happened so just to fill you in if you're unaware:

In 1976 Palestinian terrorists hijacked an Air France flight from Athens to Paris and diverted it to Entebbe, Uganda after briefly stopping in Benghazi, Libya. At the time Uganda was ruled by Palestinian supporter Idi Amin, one of the most despotic rulers in recent history.

The hijackers demanded the release of dozens of their comrades held in jails in different countries, under the threat of death to the passengers. Israel carried out what was then called Operation Thunderbolt to rescue the hostages. During the rescue a few passengers and Ugandan soldiers (who there to support the hijackers) were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

The commander of the operation, Yoni Netanyahu, Benjamin Netanyahu's brother, was killed in the operation. They later renamed it Operation Yonatan in his honor.

Considered to be one of the most effective, modern military operation. There have been several movies based on the event, some of them good. (I liked the one with Yaphet Kotto as Idi Amin, perfect match)

Wow, I had seen that movie many times and I never that was him. I now have a lot of respect for him as an actor. He's a devout Jew, that must have been tough for him to pull off.
