Maualuga.

Name one playmaker we currently have on defense. Maybe Porter, maybe the rookie d-linemen will turn into playmakers. WR will be a major need, as will all of the secondary positions. But I think you need to go BPA, and Maualuga is it.

I will go with Rey Maualuga as well. This franchise needs a face and I think Maualuga can provide that with a force. Opposing teams don't gameplan against Crowder, they don't gameplan against Bell and they sure don't gameplan against Porter (which may have cost the Patriots the game last year but nevertheless). Maualuga is an aggressive linebacker who poses a threat in many different ways and if some of the young defensive players acquired through the draft do pan out, a Maualuga pick will only look that much better.

Not a chance we'll land Maualuga. He'll go #1 or 2 and we won't have that pick due to the fact we won't be one of the worst 2 teams.

im not even sure where hes sltated to go, but I want Taylor Mays (obviously). Hes HUGE for a safety. I know hes very fast, and we're currently starting Cris Crocker/Renaldo Hill

I dont want maualagua or laurinaitas. Both are very over rated. Did you see that oregon state game? That tiny *** RB embarrased Maualagua and the USC defense.

IMO, i think we should trade down. Go to the teens and pick up and extra second or third round pick.

i think we'll look to add two HUGE, i mean, HUGE playmakers at the WR position and another to enhance the pass defence...

Crabtree is my choice but if the dolphins staff feel the WR class is deep, they'll go with a shutdown corner or a pass rushing specialist to take roth's spot

ultimately, it makes more sense to draft crabtree because there's just one way to make this offence better: draft a a true, #1WR
if you want to make this defence better, there are several ways to do so... CB, Safety, OLB, ILB and maybe even DT... so there's a lot more options at, lets say, #40 if you already have your WR in round 1 and you are looking for a defensive player than if you draft a defensive player first and you take the 4th or 5th WR in the draft at #40...that's the way i see it ....

If we trade down, we can pick up Derrius Heyward bay in the teens. And we'll have an extra pick to use on say a LB.

As long as we end up with any of these players in the first, I will be happy:

(in no specific order)

Brian Cushing
Rey Maualuga
Michael Johnson
George Selvie
Vontae Davis
Malcolm Jenkins
William Moore
Taylor Mays

it's a fairly good list of players that we might draft...

Maualuga had 12 tackles in that Oregon State game. I agree that I dont want Laurinitus but I do want Rey Maualuga he is a beast!

just cause he got tackles doesnt mean he was playing well. From what i watched, he never stepped up and filled the hole, he just chased the RB down a lot.

Granted im not ready to say he sucks or anything, cause hes really good, but it was not his best game.

The best defense is a good offense, I say we get Crabtree.

I'm still not sold on Crabtree right now. To tell you the truth, I'm not a huge fan of any of the potential WR's in the draft this year. That's why I would much rather go after someone like Boldin or Williams in FA, then draft Defense.

I think we should continue to repair our defense with the first two picks and my favs are,
1. Rey Rey or Vontae
1b. James L or Jenkins
2. Moala
With the 2nd. 2nd rounder a wide out like Byrd or if we can get lucky Heyward Bey,
third rd. the best possible with regards to our needs.

Heres what I'm hoping for, some of it may be wishful thanking

1.Vontae Davis, CB, Ill

2a. Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas

2b.Demetrius Byrd, WR, LSU

3.Scott McKillop, ILB, Pitt

4.Derek Pegues, FS, Mississippi State

5.Dallas Reynolds, OT, BYU

and the 7th round im not sure about our 3 picks yet

I'm not sold on Taylor Mays as the best safety prospect....he just looks too big....he doesn't have the best range at safety to be an elite prospect IMO.

I think he's best suited as a MLB in a Tampa 2 scheme like Brian Urlacher.....came out of New Mexico as a big safety....made the switch to linebacker.

The best pure ballhawk of a safety in the country IMO is Rashad Johnson of Alabama....he looks like Brock Marion back there.

I haven't seen a safety play the ball in the air this well since Reggie Nelson. Johnson breaks up more passes than the cornerbacks for Alabama! He was the best ballhawking safety I seen in college going back to last year...

His stock will rise come draft time....and would look great in a phins uniform...

Not knocking your pick TedSlimm but my choice at Safety is Trimaine Goddard from UNC. He was all over the place on Saturday's game against the U.

The last play of the game when he snatched away the potential game winning TD for the U and managed to keep his body under control with one foot in the back of the endzone made me a believer.

If I recall correctly I believe he had about 8-10 tackles, 2 INT's, and a FF.

While he played great, I'm withholding judgment on him until i see a few more performances against other schools.

Mays is a big guy, no question there. But IMO, thats the point. After watching the cardinals tear us apart, I want a safety who is capable of going toe-to-toe with the big guys. (and the guy runs a 4.4, so it can't be said that hes too slow for the position)

Fair enough Citizen fair enough.

I think he also made some plays in that Rutgers game too.

Yeah I know Rutgers but they were picked to do alot better than they've been starting out the gate.

Matter of fact as long as we draft a Safety that can roam all over the place AND NOT PLAY LIKE CROCK OF SH*T I'm at peace.

That 4.4 isn't an "official" time..

They said Adarius Bowman ran a 4.4 prior to the combine last year....guy couldn't even break 4.7....

Miami suffers from getting beat deep too much....going all the way back to the loss of Brock Marion...I want more of a ballhawk than a linebacker as my last line of defense.

Mays doesn't look sudden enough for me....

I'd be willing to bed Mays runs a 4.4 come combine time.

what you're describing is something very few teams have. I mean who is a ball hawk safety? Ed Reed, Troy Polamolu, Adrian Wilson, Bob sanders...Kerry Rhodes? It'd be great to have one of those guys, but it'd also be great to have a player who could do everything on defense like Mays.

I guess it really all depends on scheme, and who the coaches want. More importantly, what they want the safety to do.

I'd be willing to bet he doesn't.....

I think he'll run in the 4.55 range....

If he does run a 4.4 at 6-4, 225....then he should make a helluva lot more plays than he does...
