WEEK 7

Welcome one and all to another installment of the Unofficial FINHeaven Monday Night Football Thread. This is Week seven of the NFL season.

Tonight we have the Denver Broncos (4-2) traveling to Gillette Stadium to take on last year's AFC Champion New England Patriots. Injuries have been the story for both teams this season. New England losing star quarterback and 2007 league MVP Tom Brady in the first game of the season and Denver losing such starters as half-back Selvin Young and tight-end Tony Scheffler both to groin injuries. Denver has a high powered offense still even without Young and Scheffler but their defense has played poorly. It will be interesting to see if Matt Cassell and the New England offense can finally get into a rhythm and challange Buffalo for the lead in the AFC East.

Kickoff is about to take place so let's get this thing rolling.

I'm picking Denver in this one but only by a slight margin. Final score prediction, 21-17 Denver.

Let's see if that arm of Jay Cutler's really is "better than John Elway's"

Denver converting two straight 3rd downs. Not sure why they are targeting O'Neil so much.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 08:48 PM
Denver converts another 3rd down. New England defense getting chipped away with the run. Their obvious weakness. Pittman has 34 yards on 7 carries on this drive.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 08:50 PM
Pittman was injured on that last play. Rodney Harrison almost tackled him to China.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 08:52 PM
Andre Hall comes in for Micheal Pittman and fumbles the ball on his first carry of the game. Not how you want to start things. New England recovers and has the ball on their own 32.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 08:54 PM
Patriots already pounding the ball on Denver's defense. Reminds me of how the Ravens moved the ball on us.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 08:56 PM
Well that wasn't what Denver needed. A big pass play to the tight-end Watson and is pushed out of bounds at the DEN 16.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 09:00 PM
New England kicks a field goal and goes up 3-0. Denver looking very poor on defense but was able to get Cassell for a sack.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 09:06 PM
Another fumble by Denver but this time it was Pittman. Did they grease the ball before the game?

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 09:09 PM
Patriots can't get anything going and have to kick another field goal. 6-0 now and I feel like I have that french disease deja vou.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 09:20 PM
It's starting to get ugly for the Denver defense. They can't stop anything. Morris with a 20 yard gain and down to the DEN 41.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 09:21 PM
Two straight sacks by Denver on Matt Cassel but that is the fault of the New England O-line and not Denver's defense.

I'm not getting any views or comments on this thread so I will be back at Halftime or if there is a major event.

wow i thought our run defense was bad...denver sucks.

Patriots score another touchdown and go up 20-0 over Denver. Where did the Broncos go? I'm beginning to look forward to us playing them now. They can't stop the pass, the can't stop the run and they can't stop drawing penalties.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:00 PM
Randy Moss finally gets a touchdown to his credit. Also, looks like Jay Cutler is hurt and may not return. Same for Pittman. The world is falling for the Broncos.

broncos=overated.

Well we are at halftime and the Broncos are just getting blown out of the stadium on both sides of the ball. New England leads 20-0. Denver has fumbled the ball away twice and just has had trouble moving the ball outside of their first drive of the game. New England has been able to move the ball on a very poor defense with Sammy Morris passing the century mark long before halftime. So far Sammy Morris has 138 RuYds and 1 TD on 16 carries. Matt Cassell is having another mediocre game but has been successful thus far. He has posted 8/11 Att, 91 PaYds and 1 TD with 0 INT.

Denver on the otherhand is looking like a different team from the start of the season. Quarterback Jay Cutler will not be returning due to a injured throwing finger. He will be replaced by Patrick Ramsey. Up until his injury Cutler had posted 5/10 Att, 45 PaYrd and 0 TD with 1 INT. He also rushed twice for 12 yards. Champ Bailey also left with an injury and his return is questionable. Michael Pittman has 14 carries for 66 RuYrd, 0 TD and 1 fumble for the Broncos. Other players to note are Randy Moss with 3 Cat, 31 ReYds and 1 TD and Eddie Royal with 31 ReYds on 3 catches.

The second half is about to start and the Bronco Nation will need to get things rolling if they want to crawl back into this one. New England chose to defer until the half.

broncos=overated.

Makes me wonder what will happen when we play them. Showdown of the terrible defenses. Final score will be 62-76

I hate the Broncos alot. I'm conflicted.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:24 PM
Unfortunately I'm a closet Broncos fan because I was born in Denver. No question who I will root for when we play them though. How about that Jets vs. Raiders game? I was really conflicted there. Both my teams most hated rivals playing one another. I wanted them to both lose  I rooted for the Raiders because they only have 1 win and we need the Jets to lose some games to keep us alive in the AFC East.

Jay Cutler comes back into the game? I heard he was done for the night. Idiot commentators.

denver looks bad, i thought they'd play better than this.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:30 PM
Three and out for Denver. Wes Welker recieves the punt and runs it all the way back to the DEN 28 yard line.

I thought Denver would blow New England out of the water the way Cassel has been playing. Guess there is no remedy for a bad defense.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:34 PM
Randy Moss scores another touchdown. Hope you didn't cut him from your fantasy team.
They now are up 27-0 over an abysmal Denver team. Maybe that loss to Kansas City wasn't really a fluke after all.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:42 PM
Well so much for that big talk about Jay Cutler's arm. Another INT by Cutler and that bring their turnovers to 5 on the night. Maybe Shannahan will be the next coach fired

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:46 PM
Two Broncos are down on the play. Dre' Bly and Ebenezer Ekuban.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:48 PM
Wes Welker with another big catch and takes it out to the DEN 37. So far Welker has 57 ReYds on 5 receptions.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:49 PM
Denver gets a INT on the 1 yard line. New England is going to challange that it was trapped.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:53 PM
Interception overturned. The zebras rule it a trapped incomplete pass and the Patriots get it back. 2nd and goal NE.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:54 PM
TOUCHDOWN! Welker hauls in his first touchdown of the season and this is just embarrassing to watch. New England is now up 34-0 over Denver.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 10:59 PM
20 yard pass by Cutler to Brandon Marshall out to mid field. Tack on a unnecessary roughness penalty on the Patriots and Denver will have it at the NE 24.

This is the worst I have ever seen Denver look. ever.

Denver FINALLY get on the board and score a touchdown. Score is 34-7. The longest streak of not being shut out in the NFL stays alive.

Denver getting penalties left and right. This is one ugly game. Insult to injury was Cutler was sacked to bring up 4th and 23.

Dolpfan_72
10-20-2008, 11:31 PM
New England just walks down the field and scores again. 41-7 now.

Dolpfan_72
10-21-2008, 12:12 AM
Put this one in the books. New England wins in a blowout over Denver 41-7. The Patriots will improve to 4-2 and are still challenging the Buffalo Bills for the top of the AFC East. Denver will fall to 4-3 and are only one game ahead of the Chargers in the AFC West. Matt Cassel had a career day with a quarterback rating of 136.3. He posted 18/24 PaAtt, 185 PaYds, 3 PaTD and 0 INT. Wes Welker had 6 receptions for 63 yards and 1 ReTD. He is now the franchise reception leader with 112. Randy Moss finally showed up and hauled in 2 ReTD on 5 catches with 69 ReYds.

Sammy Morris left the game with an injury but was able to run all over the Denver defense on his way to racking up 138 RuYds on 16 carries and 1 RuTD. New England finsihed the game with over 250 yards rushing. On Denver's side of the ball, Jay Cutler was injured as well but did return to the game. He posted average numbers finishing with 17/26 PaAtt, 168 PaYds and 1 PaTD but 2 INT. Denver just couldn't get anything going and that included Michael Pittman. He ended with 20 carries for 88 RuYds. Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal where targeted but did not post large numbers. Marshall had 6 receptions for 77 ReYds and Royal ended with 9 receptions for 71 ReYds. The only touchdown was by Daniel Graham.

That does it for this week of the Unofficial Monday Night Football Thread. I'll be holding a poll to see if I should continue this or if I am just polluting the boards
