Did any of you see the blocked field goal by the Giants against the Eagles on Sunday? The Giants defender leap frogged over the Eagles O-lineman and blocked the kick.

I thought guys were not allowed to jump over players in the NFL for safety reasons, to block kicks???? How was this allowed? I can't remember who the Giants player was on this block but he pretty much hurdled the lineman. Anyone know the rules for this?...as it pertains to blocking a FG????

I officiated some high school games. The rule I believe is they can't jump on a teammate to get higher in the air and then jump. Running backs hurdle guys all the time. It's more prevalent in College.

Thanks. I got an e-mail from someone who said on kicks that the defensive guys cannot jump on their own players, or get any kind of a lift or boost from them into the air to block the kick.

Yeah, if you guys remember. Derrick Brooks got called for leaping against the Colts one time when Mike Vanderjagt missed an important FG (i can't remember if it was to win or tie) late in the game. He used his own team mate as leverage to disrupt the kick, i don't even think he blocked it but they called him for it anyway.

Trent Cole was the Eagle who jumped over two Giants defenders however (i think you're mixing up the three blocked kicks in that game Roman), and how impressive was that?

Well I once played in a game where the offensive (kicking) guy lowered his shoulder into my stomach and he did this twice in a row. So I got the idea that I'm just gonna hop over him as he lowers his shoulder to leverage myself. It didn't work... 270 lbs. doesn't leap very well. I just fell on the otherside of him by the time the bll was kicked.

I think I saw two out of the three blocked kicks.....I saw one where the guy just beat his man and got his hand up. I didn't see the leaprog one until they showed it on ESPN.

The same thing also happened at the college level this season when Ole Miss beat Florida. They blocked the field goal that would have tied the game and sent the game to overtime. The defender just leaped right over the line virtually untouched and got a hand on it.

By the way, nothing went right for the Giants against the Eagles.
