While it may be shocking, the practice of "sexting" - sending nude pictures via text message - is not unusual, especially for high schoolers around the country.

This week, three teenage girls who allegedly sent nude or semi-nude cell phone pictures of themselves, and three male classmates in a western Pennsylvania high school who received them, are charged with child pornography.

In October a Texas eighth-grader spent the night in a juvenile detention center after his football coach found a nude picture on his cell phone that a fellow student sent him.

Roughly 20 percent of teens admit to participating in "sexting," according to the National Campaign to Support Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

"This is a serious felony. They could be facing many years in prison," CBS News legal analyst Lisa Bloom said of the six teens in Pennsylvania.

lol?

A 17 year old girl sends a nude picture of herself to her 17 year old boyfriend, and they are facing years in prison? Wow, just wow. I'm glad our legal system has its head in the right place. Nevermind the thousands of dollars of taxpayer dollars that would be spent to pay for these kid's prison time, why isn't this sort energy being used to pursue the real problems the U.S. has? To hell with the war on drugs, right? I mean as long as we lock up a couple of kids for sending pictures of themselves to eachother, all is well in the U.S....

I don't understand how it's child pornography. But then again, isn't oral sex illegal almost everywhere? I doubt that law is being upheld regularly :d-day:

This is the madness and Orwellian nature of "No Tolerance." Giving felony sentences to a child for exploiting herself? Why not convict them of "sleeping with children" when they go to sleep by themselves in their beds? I swear, some positions in the education and legal field must be given out in a random lottery or something.

15-year-old girl from central Pennsylvania faces child pornography charges after police say she sent nude pictures of herself over the Internet.

Clearfield County District Attorney William Shaw says the girl has been charged as a juvenile with possessing, distributing and creating child pornography.

The girl is living with her mother. Authorities say the girl sent the pictures after communicating in June 2007 with a 27-year-old man over the MySpace networking Web site.

This is a victimless crime.

We suck with our priorities as far as the legal system goes.
