MOCK DRAFT: ROUND 1
PICK TEAM PLAYER POS SCHOOL

1 (1) Lions Mark Sanchez* QB USC
This could be a tough choice if the Lions want a QB. Sanchez must prove he's ready mentally and physically after one season as a starter. The next two options are three-year starters.

2 (2) Rams Eugene Monroe T Va.
Massive help is needed for the offensive line. Andre Smith is seen as an option, but weight and character issues likely will lead the Rams to Monroe. He must prove he has the competitive spirit to warrant going No. 2.

3 (3) Chiefs Matthew Stafford* QB Georgia
Another team with multiple needs. If Stafford can prove the interceptions he threw under pressure were not due to bad decisions, he'll likely be the pick.

4 (4) Seahawks Andre Smith* T Alabama
Team officials will debate between Smith and WR Michael Crabtree. They will take Smith if he can prove he will work hard enough to stay in shape and play up to his talent level.

5 (5) Browns Chris Wells* RB Ohio St.
The debate here is between RB and WR. Wells' job is to prove that questions about his toughness and work ethic are not legitimate.

6 (6) Bengals Brian Orakpo DE Texas
They need a pass rusher. Orapko shows the athletic ability to do the job and must sell the team on his ability to develop into an elite player.

7 (7) Raiders Jason Smith T Baylor
Smith is a rare athlete for a tackle. He must prove he can be a more physical and aggressive blocker. He'll get the chance to do so at the Senior Bowl.

8 (8) Jaguars Michael Crabtree* WR Tex. Tech
An impact receiver is their priority. Crabtree must show the explosiveness and speed in sprint testing to seal the deal.

9 (9) Packers Updated B.J. Raji DT Boston Coll.
To upgrade their interior line, the Packers need a big defensive tackle. Raji must dispel worries about his lack of ideal height to be considered here.

10 (10) 49ers Josh Freeman* QB Kansas St.
Now that they've found Alex Smith can't lead the offense, Freeman gets a look. His task: Show his mistakes were because of a lack of talent around him and not bad decisions.

11 (11) Bills Larry English DE Northern Ill.
Getting an edge rusher is the team's priority. English must show the strength to be a productive starter despite playing at a smaller school.

12 (12) Broncos Aaron Curry OLB Wake For.
They need a ton of defensive help. Curry shows elite athletic ability and was productive. He must demonstrate sustained effort at the Senior Bowl and Combine.

13 (13) Redskins Vontae Davis* CB Illinois
Team brass wants a pass rusher, but with the top two gone they grab a cornerback. Davis must become more consistent, but he is a rare athlete. We expect him to surge at the Combine to win the team's favor.

14 (14) Saints Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St.
The Saints will be thrilled to see Jenkins fall to them. They'll jump on him if he proves he is a premier athlete at the Combine.

15 (15) Texans Updated Everette Brown* DE Florida St.
They're looking for a quick, explosive pass rusher to play opposite Mario Williams. Brown must prove he has what it takes to be a full-time starter at his weight.

16 (16) Chargers Donald Brown* RB UConn
LaDainian Tomlinson is on the downside of his career, and Darren Sproles likely will leave as a free agent. Brown's job is to show he has the strength to atone for a lack of height. He'll be prepped to replace LT in 2010.

17 (17) Jets Nate Davis* QB Ball State
Brett Favre will be gone, and Kellen Clemens hasn't proven he can be a long-term starter. If Davis handles himself well in interviews and private workouts, he'll be picked as the Jets' QB of the future.

18 (18) Bears Darrius Heyward-Bey* WR Maryland
They want Nate Davis, but he'll be gone, and they'll grab Heyward-Bey, a huge receiver who must demonstrate he has the speed to merit the pick.

19 (19) Buccaneers Percy Harvin* WR Florida
Looking for a receiver to take pressure off Antonio Bryant, they'll target Harvin. His job is to show he can be a durable NHL wideout.

20 (20) Lions Updated Aaron Maybin* DE Penn State
(From Dallas) New coach Jim Schwartz will install a high-pressure, aggressive defense. Maybin lacks ideal bulk, but he is explosive and fast. Once he proves it, he'll make sense for the Lions.

21 (21) Eagles Knowshon Moreno* RB Georgia
Brian Westbrook is struggling to stay healthy and will be 30 next season. The Eagles jump on the draft's most well rounded back. Moreno must show receiving skills to go with his quickness and speed.

22 (22) Vikings William Beatty T UConn
The right side of the offensive line was awful. If Beatty shows sufficient strength to play right tackle, the Vikings will grab him.

23 (23) Patriots Updated Brian Cushing OLB USC
Cushing is an elite athlete and versatile enough to play inside, outside or end. That's a must for this defense. Was his lack of consistent production because of injuries or a lack of instincts?

24 (24) Falcons Alphonso Smith CB Wake For.
Their goal is to updraft the secondary. Smith must prove he can use his elite athletic ability to overcome his lack of ideal height.

25 (25) Dolphins D.J. Moore* CB Vandy
Cornerback is a weakness, so Moore would help despite being a tad undersized. His task: display athletic ability and explosiveness.

26 (26) Ravens Updated Alex Mack C Cal
Mack will be given a shot at replacing Jason Brown, who likely will leave as a free agent. The key is for him to demonstrate he's ready to start.

27 (27) Colts Updated Hakeem Nicks* WR N. Carolina
With Marvin Harrison's time near an end, the team needs a big-play replacement. Nicks has the needed quickness and explosive speed.

28 (28) Eagles Brandon Tate WR N. Carolina
(From Carolina) Having hit a home run with DeSean Jackson last year, the team wants Tate to be a big-receiver complement. Tate must continue to display speed and explosive ability.

29 (29) Giants Rey Maualuga ILB USC
With Antonio Pierce in his 30s, the team needs a middle linebacker for the future. The Bednarik Award winner would be a good choice.

30 (30) Titans Jeremy Maclin* WR Missouri
Maclin is a big-play receiver and return man for a team that must add weapons to its offense. Coaches want to make sure he can improve his technique and route-running ability.

31 (31) Cardinals LeSean McCoy* RB Pitt
They're looking for a feature back for the future. McCoy must show he has the size to be a full-time starter.

32 (32) Steelers Updated Eben Britton* T Arizona
Inconsistent offensive line play was among the few problems this season. They will gamble on Britton if he proves he has the quickness to be their left tackle of the future.

Dolphins pass on Maualuga and pick Moore instead? He won't be there when we pick. And we sure as heck wouldn't pass on him if he was. Then they have us drafting WR Foster in the second round while passing on Sintim? That mock is insane.

I would love to have a choice between Moore, Maclin and Maualuga in the first round. But, I doubt if any of them are there let alone ALL 3. Well, Moore might be. But, we sure wouldn't pick him over Maualuga.

Am I missing something? I don't see Michael Oher drafted in the first two rounds. This mock is whacked out.

i second that, there are a lot of questionable predictions in that mock :foundout:

Wow. I find it extremely unlikely that the chips fall this way. I'm seeing way too many reaches and teams going after secondary needs.

This might be one of the worst mocks I've ever seen. Nate Davis and Josh Freeman going in the first round?

Wow.

This might be one of the worst mocks I've ever seen. Nate Davis and Josh Freeman going in the first round?

Wow.

Freeman could very easily go first. Davis might as well. There are a bunch of teams that have made QBs a must get in this draft.

As of today, not a great overall mock (though I really do like Moore). But this could be very accurate by draft day.

I'll admit, I haven't watched alot of Freeman or Davis, other than a few games on ESPN.

Haha.

I'll admit, I haven't watched alot of Freeman or Davis, other than a few games on ESPN.

Haha.

Freeman doesn't have great stats, but he never had a lot of help outside of Jordy Nelson and is the main reason KSU has even been competitive in most games. Teams like Chicago,Minny, and Carolina if they trade into the first could use him.

Davis has good height, weight, stats, arm strength but he's hurt by playing on a Ball State team that was pretty bad until the past 2 years. Guys like Big Ben, Chad, and Leftwich got drafted in the first as MAC QBs cause they were dominant.

yea, this is a terrible mock. i was going through a lot of the picks saying to myself, "wow. i dunno about. i guess anything can happen in the draft though."

then im scrolling, see Patrick Turner in the 2nd round and immediately scroll down to the quick reply in disbelief.

terrible.

I like Brooks Foster but damn that seems high. And they're awful bold to have Laurinaitis dropping out of the first round that far into the second. Could definitely happen, but it's still bold.

I don't have that many problems with that draft aside from that being a little high for Brooks Foster...but heck everyone thought the top of the third round was a little high for Kendall Langford.

All I know is, D.J. Moore is an excellent football player, Laurinaitis at #44 could be a steal, and Brooks Foster has size, speed, played in a pro system, and has return abilities.

Are you OK with DJ Moore as our pick, with names like Nicks, Tate, Britton, etc, etc still available???

In other words, would you pick Moore over the others available at #25?
