Apparently the micro-black holes created in the Hadron Collider won't "evaporate" in milliseconds as previously thought, and could last for up to a second. Thus you have a race between how long a black hole can survive, and how quickly it can acrete matter and grow to a sustainable size.

I am willing to bet everything I own that this device won't come close to destroying the world. It may take out France, but not the whole world.

Lol...only problem is, these scientists are betting everything that everyone owns, will own, or ever owned on whether the device will destroy the world. Of course, it's a vanishingly small chance of disaster striking. But considering that once they create a stable black hole, there's really nothing we could do to save the planet, I would like them to be ridiculously carefull.

Because of my religious convictions I know that only God will destroy the earth, on His timetable.... not man's. But they don't know that.... because......

....science must go on you know, it must continue to seek the truth.

Hey with any luck they will open up a worm hole and thus invite alien creatures to storm through.....now that would make for exciting times! Too bad France is our first line of defense.

France, and Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum. All we have to do is give the aliens a computer virus...
