I hear lots of different things, that he's a top ten pick or late first rounder.

I don't follow college football all that much, and am not a nuts and bolts football guy, but what do people think of having him at right tackle or possibly even at guard? It's a gamble, but considering that it's a pick that the Dolphins don't need to turn out to be a winner, I'm thinking it's worth swinging for the fences if the opportunity presents itself.

I also have read that the Dolphins have interviewed him, so maybe I'm not the only one who thinks this.

If Vernon Carey doesn't re-sign, and Michael Oher is there...I would not hesitate in picking him. Long and Oher would be the pillars to the line for a LONG time.

However, I think Oher is a great left tackle, and some team will grab him well before our pick at this point.

If Michael Oher is there when the Dolphins are on the clock how could you not consider it? Just imagine Jake manning the left side, and Oher on the right. Your bookend tackles are set for the next 12-13 years. If Vernon re-signs there is always the possibility you can kick him inside to RG, and shift Donald Thomas over to LG. Oh lord, the possibilities!

Anyways, again if Oher is there how could you not consider taking him?

Donald Thomas? Did you forget the contract we gave to Justin Smiley? Are you suggesting that Smiley would be a backup?

if carey doeesn't resign and oher is on the board at #25 i'd run the card up.

oher has some consistency issues but the upside is off the charts.

Let's say Smiley can't come back at all, how does that effect the cap if he retires due to injury? Are we just screwed "too bad so sad" or is there cap relief for that?

I think we're off the hook for retirement, although we may have to give an injury settlement.

No, you take him, period. He would be by far the BPA available at 25.

Talent-wise Oher is a top 3 pick, and I doubt any scout would tell you otherwise. The kid is phenomenal and would purely be considered a LT because he's a pass protecting gem and really could be the next Ogden, Pace, etc. athletically. The only reason his draft grades are all over the place is because of his extremely rough upbringing that included essentially raising himself in the ghetto and bouncing around various places to even survive. He was completely out of school (grammar school) for several years and the 'system' didn't even know. When people talk about having a rough upbringing, they're living in the lap of luxury compared to what this kid had to endure.

Now, because of this he is extremely raw in some basic areas, but his athleticism and play are outstanding. Furthermore, it's not his character people are questioning--he's not a hellion or troublemaker. It is simply that his past has been so unusual and difficult that he will always be a gamble because its difficult to predict how he will react to the money and limelight of the pro game.

Talent-wise, the kid is the bluest of the blue chip. As a person, you'd be heartless not to feel for the kid. Having said all that, the fame, bling and bad influences that come with turning professional cause many scouts to worry he could turn out to be a flop, and many have put massive red flags on the guy. Still, he has too much talent to drop to 25. Rest assured, someone will take a chance on Michael Oher, and I think they'll have one of the steals of the draft.

I totally agree. Oher on the board at 25 would be one of the few who would make me go away from taking Mack. Carey could be a Pro Bowler playing RG.
Thomas would give us great depth behind Smiley for the next time he gets injured. If we were able to land Oher at 25, I'd still look for a center in the 2nd or 3rd. Presuming Mack gone by 44, I'd take Unger or Wood at one of the 2nd round slots.

Exactly what I was thinking. Carey is a better guard anyway, and our line would be awesome. Then with the second #2 we could pick Eric Wood to play Center. The O-line would be Monsters, and we would have some depth.

LT - Long
LG - Smiley / Thomas
C - Wood
RG - Carey
RT - Oher

That would definitely make Sparano / BP Smile. :D
