I know there's a bunch of these. I'm gonna go with What Dreams May Come. This is one of my favorite books, and I actually love Robin Williams too, but I absolutely hated the movie.

Starship Troopers. No question. The book was an in depth morality play. The movie was................I don't know what it was, but, it had Doogie Houser in faux nazi gear. This movie still makes me mad when I think about it.

good question. there's so many. any movie based on a stephen king book not called the shawshank redemption, the shining, or pet sematary would be up for consideration.

love in the time of cholera was a slap in the face when compared to how excellent the book was.

i would say the best are apocalypse now (heart of darkness was like an 86 page book!), one flew over the cuckoo's nest, american psycho, and fight club.

I know that this is not the thread topic, but One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest is also an excellent adaptation from novel to movie.... for the most part, so is [I] NO Country for Old Men... How about American Psycho and Lord of the Flies.... or Grapes of Wrath? Wait a minute! They are all good.... I am having a hard time coiming up with losers... somebody already said all the Stephen King books... that is a truth, right there....

Well most of Stephen King's non-horror stories have been made into good films...Green Mile...Shawshank Redemption...

Bonfire of the Vanities was a notorious stinker from what I recall.

Zodiac was a pretty good interpretation of the book. Great movie.

Casino was a fantastic movie, but it didn't go along as well with the book like Goodfellas did.

The Sum of All Fears: erased realistic Muslim terrorists and insert cliche Euro-villains, miscasted Liev Schrieber as John Clark, Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan (wtf?). Horrible follow up to Clear and Present Danger.

Although they were all enjoyable and decent to good movies, The Last Man on Earth, Omega Man, and I am Legend all failed to deliver on a great book and probably the best ending to any story I've ever read. Why did they change the ending?
