MONTGOMERY, Ala. ~~ Some hard uncalled fouls and angry fans resulted in a fight that saw G.W. Carver advance in this Regional tournament after a Valley forfeit.

"The players began to communicate negatively," said C.L. Thomas, a tournament staffer. "I was standing by the door and you see folks pouring off the bench. The officials have to have a tighter reign on an atmosphere like that."

With 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter and a 52-37 lead over Valley, Carver was on its way to a lopsided win.

Carver players rushed the court as fans poured over the stand onto the court. Carver players entered the melee, as more fans rushed the court to get into the fight.

The result was an hour-long delay, the arrest of several participants and a Valley forfeit.

Once things on the court were calmed, the fighting continued in the stands. At three separate intervals, fights ensued after the on-court fight ended.

"Valley does not have enough players left to participate," said Joe Evans, associate executive director of the AHSAA. "The game ended because they don't have enough."

Carver advanced, but there is a chance several of its players face suspension as well, pending a film review.

An hour and 10 minutes after the fight, Goshen and R.C Hatch took the floor to resume the tournament.

School officials are investigating after a big brawl broke out during a high school basketball playoff game in Montgomery.
The fight cleared the benches of both G.W. Carver and Valley High schools and halted the semifinal game.

The Central Regional Tournament of the Alabama High School Athletic Association game was being played at the Alabama State University Acadome on Tuesday afternoon.

Valley's Enrique Florence fouled Carver's Roquez Johnson with 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. Johnson shoved Florence and both benches emptied.

Fans poured out of the stands onto the court. Police ended fights on the court but more erupted in the stands.
