Is likely to be a smoke screen. I saw where it was written about 2 weeks ago that Tuna had identified 'his guy' and was willing to 'move up' to get him. I'm betting he has no such player, and plans to pick BPA, like he did with Merling last year.

Merling at 32 was such a slide.. If the Pats had their pick, they might have drafted him.. He was 8th on Mayock's Big Board last year...

You know someone will slide, i think we may get maulaluga afterall

I believe BP is locked onto "his guy". I also believe that it was said by Gil Brandt that it is not someone anyone is talking about much or recognizes as 1st rounder and some would be dissapointed.

Hence, Connor Barwin

Hmm...I did my own mock draft the other day and had him going to NE a few picks before us.

Man I'd love Maualuga!

BP and JI pulled the same stuff last year with Jake Long, They kept saying they were drafting a "Pillar for the defense for years to come". Then take Jake long instead, Have not heard much how Howie's son did with the Rams last year.So who knows for sure what they are planning. They could trade the pick away, for more later picks or for next year. No telling should be fun to watch how it plays out........

But they did in Langford and Merling! They never said what round that pillar of defense would come from.

couple things to remember..

1.The Jake Long stuff was a mess up by Ireland.

2.I remember last year when we picked at 32, seeing videos of Ireland and Tuna looking down at who was available and changing up their board. Right then and there I knew the pick was Merling because he was too good to pass up.

3.IMO Ireland and Sparano have a lot more control than people think. Remember last year Tuna wanted Chris Long but Sparano and Ireland wanted Jake so Tuna gave them the first choice BUT said if Jake's contract demands were too high, they'd draft Chris. Hell, Parcells wasn't even at Jake's introduction PC.

4.Identifying who you want isn't always a smoke screen. We gave both Langford and Murphy a lot of love last year (Murphy more so because Mike Maser really wanted him). Some teams are really obvious though when it comes to who they want (Bucs,Raiders, and Jets in particular). The teams that are unpredictable either identify who fits their system (Steelers,Ravens, and Patriots), go strictly by their draft board (Jaguars,Saints, and Eagles), or they honestly don't know who they want (Bengals,Chiefs, Lions, and us during the Wanny years)
