I'm currently reading this book by Cormac McCarthy. He won the Pulitzer for it. The movie is currently being made and it's set to release sometime later this year. It's going to star Viggo Mortensen, Guy Pearce, Robert Duvall, and Charlize Theron. It's a post-apocalyptic tale about a man and his son's struggle to survive on a desolate road. I think this will be a great movie, can't wait for it to come out.

Sounds promising. I always liked alternate history or apocolyptic stories, is it horror or science fiction? Any comparable films/books?

It's not a horror. I'd label it more a sci-fi/thriller/drama mix. Here's a synopsis of the book, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Road. Be careful it may give away more information than you want to know.

I can't think of any comparisons right off hand. I'll have to get back to you on that.

Imagine a mix between "The Stand" by Stephen King and "The Postman"....

McCarthy is a GREAT writer and one of the few fiction authors that I consistently follow... I think I have read everything he has ever wrote.... If you like westerns (or if you don't) SF, you need to read "Blood Meridian"... awesome...

Cormac McCarthy is one of the best writers today.

Also, it is going to be directed by John Hillcoat, who made The Proposition. So it should be great.

Also, Omar Little is going to be in this. I have to see it.

I'm halfway through the book and I've had to put it down for a bit. I'm too damned depressed to read anymore. I've switched over to a book about punctuation to cheer me up. PUNCTUATION!

Which book? The Road or Blood Meridian?

Which book? The Road or Blood Meridian?

The Road. It's going to be a while before I get to Blood Meridian, I have a stack of books that I haven't read yet. Spring is here, so I'm starting to get into my annual Ernest Hemmingway mood.
