Beatrice Arthur, the tall, deep-voiced actress whose razor-sharp delivery of comedy lines made her a TV star in the hit shows "Maude" and "The Golden Girls" and who won a Tony Award for the musical "Mame," has died. She was 86.

She died peacefully at her Los Angeles home early Saturday with her family at her side, family spokesman Dan Watt said. She would have been 87 on May 13.

Arthur had cancer, Watt said, declining to give further details.

"She was a brilliant and witty woman," said Watt, who was Arthur's personal assistant for six years. "Bea will always have a special place in my heart."

Rest in Peace Bea. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you as a boy on Maude and loved the chemistry you had with Estelle Getty, Betty White and Rue McClanahan on Golden Girls.

We've lost a very funny and entertaining actress.

I loved her on Golden Girls. I hope she lead a wonderful life and died peacefully. She and the rest of the ladies on the show sure made me laugh over the years.

R.I.P. :(

She had a great wit, a talent that seems rare today. I hope her final days were painless and comfortable. rip
