An Ohio teenager says he expects to be suspended from a Christian school for attending a public school prom with his girlfriend.

Officials at Heritage Christian School in Findlay had warned 17-year-old Tyler Frost that he would be suspended and prohibited from attending graduation if he went to the Saturday dance. The fundamentalist Baptist school in northwest Ohio forbids dancing, rock music and hand holding.

Frost says he went to the dance because he wanted to experience the prom and didn't think it was wrong.

Im sure none of the other kids are listening to rock music or holding girls hands

Seriously though, you can't expect people, especially teenagers, to live up to rules like that. Thats ridiculous.

Excessive?

IMO, definately ... But it's not as if he won't graduate. He just isn't allowed to sit through the ceremony. I'm not sure how large his class is, but this could be a win/win situation for him (I graduated with over 550 in my class, & wow ... long, boring day)

Now, Mom will be pissed - but, it isn't as if they didn't warn him.

The bottom line is: Religious schools do not have to follow the same rules as public schools. No matter how stupid we think this decision is, they have the right to do it.

Do they? Does being a private school mean anything goes? Surely there's some limits, ought to be at least. Can a school control every facet of a pupil's off-campus life?

I wish people would wake up and realize that HS students could be doing much worse things than dancing and listening to rock music. C'mon people... really?

I actually contacted this school. Doubt they even cared when they saw what the letter was about but oh well. I needed to vent haha. I realize at the end of the day the parents had signed a contract or something that the kid wasn't allowed to do these things but still... let the kid live his life. I guess it just hit me a little hard since I graduated high school last year and I'm a very open minded but devout christian but I was just steaming mad at these people.

Honestly, parochial schools can still get away with all kinds of ****.

As recently as the mid-80's they were still using corporal punishment. The way they did it was by notifying the parents 24-hours in advance (calling it a "cool down" period). If the parents wouldn't agree to their discipline, they said fine ... You may enroll your child in public school starting tomorrow.

That's how I knew when they warned him ahead of time ... If he went through with it, they wouldn't hesitate ... What probably saved him from being tossed entirely was that he was a Senior so close to graduation.

I never cease to be amazed by some of these hardcore conservitives down around the bible belt. I actually work with a guy(yes, in the US Navy) who is 20 years old, has never said a cuss word, never kissed or held his fiances hand. We have been trying to corrupt him, but he is unshakable. I actually kind of feel bad for him.

The sad part is these people are losing out on so much joy they could be having for an opportunity of being in heaven, a place that will never be confirmed even exists.

He is engaged to a woman who he has never kissed or even held hands with? Wha? How can he feel comfortable marrying her?

I'm sure premarital sex is also prohibited .. since it could lead to dancing! But it'll all be worth it once the Rapture arrives.

Holy crap. I really hope they turn out to be sexually compatible once they marry. She is gonna be pretty grumpy for a few months while he learns how to have sex longer than 10 seconds. I don't see that being a very happy marriage to be completely honest....

You have to take into effect that a good amount of loungies are also 3 AM crew members... we rule therefore it only seems like everyone is a 3 AM crew member.

To apply to be in the 3 AM crew. ask Spurz or CedarPhin for the banner and post often in the thread (stickied in the lounge)

The following message has been brought to you by a 3rd party known as the "Vote For Bumpus" cult. Don't ask, we won't tell.

Well, it's their right to do so. They warned him. It's a private school and, they can toss out whomever they want, for whatever reason they want.

I'd say getting tossed from that school would be among the best things that ever happened to the kid.

Agreed. There is a private catholic school in my city and I know a few kids that were given the great gift of leaving that dreaded hellhole and they never looked back. I use to joke around with one of those kids until he finally snapped. I didn't understand how bad it was for him. LOL

Seriously, myself and the other supervisors try our best not to tease him. I actually gave him a formal counseling about it, I told him to go to the self help section of the library. The funniest stuff is when the guys break out their cell phones and show him porn. He always covers his eyes and gets angry about it. He actually pulled me aside and asked what a rim job was, after somebody talked about it in the duty van.

Tyler Frost, a 17-year-old senior at Heritage Christian School in Findlay, Ohio was warned that that he would face suspension and miss his graduation if he attended his girlfriend's prom at her public school -- but he did it anyway.

The move has resulted in his being labeled him a rebel in some places, but he told The Early Show in an exclusive interview he has no regrets.

"It was worth it," Frost told co-anchor Harry Smith.

I watched the interview this morning. The kid seemed very well spoken, and was actually pretty normal looking. This may be one of the best decisions he has made. Like it or not, this thing may get him into a slightly more prestigious college....
