Today i feel the same sadness (sports man pain) that i first felt 10 years ago when Dan retired. The game of hockey is losing a great one. 20 years with the same organization, one of the best leaders and clutch players to ever play the game. You know your a special human being when you play for the Avalanche and even red wings fans don't have anything bad to say about you. the best wrist shot i have ever see, i'm going to miss watching him play. i will always remember joe passing the cup to ray bourque like a hot potato, the most unselfish act i have seen in professional sports...i leave you with some of notable career statistics.
625 goals
1016 assists
1378 games played
8 gwg in overtime of the playoffs (most all time)
2 time stanley cup winner in 96 and 01
mvp in 2001
1996 playoff conn smythe playoff mvp
gold medal in 2002 with canada
and 13 nhl all star games

Sakic and the Nordiques were some of my first hockey memories..
Then the Panthers came along and i could actually go to hockey games..
I stopped liking the Avs when they beatup the Panthers in 96.
Sakic Roy and Forsberg is nasty.

even though i'm a die hard habs fan and therefore hated the nordiques, I've got to give props to one of the most underrated hockey players of all time

FYI , i now live in quebec city and there's major talks around here about retiring his number at the pepsi colloseum ...
