Assuming there will be no major, or career threatening injuries, what positions will Miami be looking to draft come next year?

Not looking for any specific names, because you never know where everyone will be picking from, just positions.

Thoughts?

Jerry Hughes, Sergio Kindle and Greg Hardy instantly come to mind for me. Especially with the new situation with Roth.

Depending on how Soliai, Cohen or Ellis do...Terrence Cody and Ndamukong Suh are high possibilities.

We will be looking at ILB, NT/DT and RB. Maybe OLB and G/C. The rest would be the Best Player Available..... I guess

If Soliai doesn't look like a starter this year, NT will be one of the first positions addressed. If he looks good, then we'll still address NT, but maybe later.

I think we'll be looking at 'backers early (OLB and ILB. Need to find a replacement for Peezy, and Wake might not be it. Channing needs a decent compliment next to him...Ayodele is serviceable but we need better.

A lot depends on what we see this year. This is the year for many of our young guys to show us what we have in them.

Can you change the word 'considering' to 'assuming'?
So much less karma that way...

As of right now we should take a NT(or 2 knowing this regime), ILB, Interior Line Depth, RB, and add a secondary player to the mix. But teams change drastically every year so you never know what is going to happen for the Draft next year. I really only pay attention to the draft when our season is over. In this years case, that should be early February.

ILB, NT/DT, OLB - I think these three positions are locks...after that I would say O-line depth (with more attention at guard), then RB.

1- Dominant NT. Fergusan is getting older and we need a more dominant player at the most important position in the 3-4 D

2- Workhorse HB. Only if Brown dosent resign for some reason, if we resign Brown we wont need a HB here.

3- Pass Rushing OLB. Porter and Taylor are getting older and you cant have to many good pass rushing OLB's in a 3-4.

4- Speed WR. To help Ginn stretch the field and keep both safetys back opening up things underneath.

5- Productive ILB- To replace either Crowder or Ayodele whichever isnt producing enough, we need more out of our ILB's.

6- Backup QB- If Penny dosent resign with us well need a backup to Henne and White, if Penny resigns well be fine here.

7- Backup Olineman- Only if some of our current backups dont pan out, i think well be fine though since Tuna and company have brought in lots of talent on the Oline.

8- Backup NT- If Soliai, Cohen, or Ellis dosent pan out.

I think we will be able to fill all our holes during next years Free Agency, Draft, and Possible Trades, and if we do we will be serious Super Bowl contenders, with a break or 2 we could get to the Super Bowl this year IMO.

NT might be our only real need.
It's interesting when your team is seemingly set for the upcoming season, how much more difficult it makes your draft seem. I mean, it's too easy to piss away picks (Eddie Moore).

I would like to speculate but if Turner keeps getting better i would say WR is out and BP doesnt take NT's high so look 2nd or 3rd round there.

Pass rush OLB is prob the best bet for early on.....then a MLB i would not be surprised if we take 2 or 3 LB's with our first 3 picks

we need some youth at olb (Porter and JT starting) and at nt.

on offense we need some youth at rb. Ricky is getting up there in age, and in the NFL, two rb's are needed.

defense should be our first priority, but I wouldnt be surprised if we took a dropping rb.

OLB will probably be a huge need with JP & JT being as old as they are because we can't expect matt roth to be a play maker

ILB would be huge too because of Crowders bad knees and plus it shouldn't be hard to upgrade over Akin. Don't want to think of our LB corp with Torbor as a starter...

DT we really have no haynesworth/wilfork/jenkins type of guy there...we need to find something special because thats the key to the 3-4 scheme

RB (later rounds) find a replacement for ricky...hes getting up there in age. I hope we keep the guy until he retires cuz hes always been one of my favorite players of all time even with his little drug incident.

OL (later rounds) need depth

WR (possibly early) believe me i love the guys we have but if ginn doesn't turn into the #1 steve smith type player that we need, we have to consider getting a play maker. Otherwise i don't think we take a receiver

Really? Why not?

Really? Why not?

He's a backup for a reason. Not to take anything away from the guy but i think akin is average at best for our 2nd ILB and if Torbor can't beat him out...
He showed some good coverage skills at times last year but we need a more consistant guy in there that can actually stop the run.

Miami should trade every pick they have to get Eric Berry.

Eric Berry plays Safety, Quarterback, wide receiver, running back, offensive line, linebacker, coach, and is on Chuck Norris' Fav 5.

In all honesty, if we had any shot at Eric Berry, I'd love to take it. I just don't know if we'd be in that position. Depending on how the season goes...I like Berry, Suh, Cody, Kindle, Hughes, Hardy and even Dez Bryant if the wide receivers are not up to par.

Personally, I don't think we win near as many games as last season. I think expectations are extremely high from the fan perspective. I honestly believe that we are at most a 9 win team; as low as a 6 win team. Either is certainly possible. If somehow we really **** the bed and win only 6 games this season, I say why not trade up for this superstar. I wouldn't complain about trading up for Suh either. I think Suh is the bigger need, but Berry is just an unreal phenom.

I do feel we'll have a harder time this year, but I never predict wins. So many things can change a game, it's impossible to predict. I just want to see the team perform at a constant high level and show they can be a force consistently. I do feel that it's a 3 year plan we're on.

mos def need a nt

Kdawg954
08-07-2009, 05:49 AM
ILB, NT, RB, OT, C, OG, OLB

An early mock would be

1. Rolando McClain - ILB - Alabama
2. Boo Robinson - NT - Wake Forest
3. Brandan Lang - OLB - Troy

Now these 3 could all be first round picks when it is all said and done, who in the hell knows . . . but needless to say I would be a happy camper with this first day . . . we resign Ronnie, but we probably lose JT/Roth. JP is almost done, we need our OLB's in place. NT is solved with Boo and McClain is a physical beast and perfect for the 3-4.

Draft a guy like javarris James, who is a nice sized back with a tremendous skill set, but just been a bad offense at UM since he has been there . . . and then let this front office get the rest of the Oline straight.

I am thinking Linebackers, a NT, possibly a RB (unless they think Hilliard or Cobbs can replace Ricky when he retires and if Ronnie gets resigned) and some O Line depth. Would be very happy with some good Linebackers.

We need to draft 2-3 LBs, a RB, and a NT. Those three positions, in my opinion, are top priority. Then we can look for OL depth - you can always find good OL players in the latter part of the draft.

1. Greg Hardy - OLB
2. DeMarcus Granger - NT
3. Micah Johnson - ILB
4. RB (Ricky's replacement, sadly?)
5. OL (Depth at any position)
6. DL (End or NT depth)
7. FB (Why not eh?)

NT and ILB are the big ones i think. suh, cody, spikes, and mcclain in particular.

ILB/OLB and DT would be my first areas of focus. We could use some upgrades at OG as well. Brandon Spikes would be a nice pickup at linebacker, but let's see what we have in 2009.

ILB:

Rolando McClain, Alabama
Sean Lee, Penn State
Josh Bynes, Auburn
Darryl Sharpton, Miami

Any of the 4 over another ga*tor NFL bust (aka Spikes)

gator busts are usually on offense - not defense. say what you want about the gators, but they consistently produce DE's and MLB's in the NFL. trace armstrong, jevon kearse, kevin carter, andra davis, mike peterson, crowder, etc. just to name a few. spikes will not be anywhere close to a bust in the NFL. i'd bet you anything on that one. mcclain is the only one who *might* be better.

offense - yeah, then you've got a point. defense - they produce NFL talent year in and year out. the gators have like 6 players that could go in the first round next year - and all on defense.

1. SOLB
2. NT
3. ILB
4. RB (Ricky's replacement, :( )
5. G/C

From there on, I would expect depth guys, specifically on offense.

1. NT...right now we have a guy who is getting up there in age and a number 2 who has been inconsistant thus far (hope that changes this year). Getting an elite NT here will instantly improve our run D
2. OLB/ILB...idk what the free agent pool is looking like for the upcoming offseason but hopefully pick up one of these positions and draft the other. (need to get younger here) A good LB to compliment a great NT I feel will put our D in the top 5.
3. C...I wasn't happy at all about getting Jake Grove and if he doesn't give our run game a significant improvement (i dont think he will) then we need to try someone else
4. OG...Smiley is injurey prone and like last year if one guy goes down our offensive line is totally different
5. ILB/OLB...whatever position we didn't take earlier
6. RB...not a hard position to replace(Lex Hilliard). Not looking for great talent with ronnie and cobbs already on the team and need to find a 3rd stringer to replace RW
7. CB...add some competition
