Just got a new computer 2 months ago and the operating system is corrupt. I can't even get online. McAfee protection didn't do crap. I have Windows Vista now and was told I have to reinstall Vista but may be able to get a cd with XP on it from a friend. I'd rather have Windows XP so can I just uninstall Vista and install XP? Also, how can I get rid of all the bloatware that came with the computer?

Your best bet if you really want to get rid of everything and install XP is to wipe the hard drive completely.

Google DBAN (Darrick's Boot and Nuke). It will COMPLETELY wipe the information from the drive. All bloatware that came with the system will be gone and you can install XP without problems. It will basically make it as if the drive has never had anything on it.

You can't just downgrade Vista to XP, wiping is about the only option. Or you could try to get your hands on a copy of Windows 7, but that doesn't get rid of all the crap that came with the computer
