View Full Version : LeGarrette Blount Just Sucker Punched His Way Out of College Football

There's no other way to put this: Oregon tailback LeGarrette Blount (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/LeGarrette+Blount/) straight lost his mind Thursday night, sucker punching a Boise State player and requiring physical restraint to leave the stadium after the Ducks' embarrassing 19-8 loss. Boise State's Byron Hout (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Byron+Hout/) appeared to tap Blount on the shoulder during postgame interactions, before turning away, only to take a Blount sucker punch to his jaw that floored him. Broncos coach Chris Petersen (http://www.fanhouse.com/tag/Chris+Petersen/) rushed in to separate him from further incident.

Blount then hopped away, only to get into another altercation with several Boise State fans seated near the field. At that point several people had to restrain him and forcibly drag him down the tunnel into an unknown but probably dark future. It's not unreasonable to speculate that his college career is over. Blount was particularly atrocious in Thursday's game, netting negative five yards on eight carries including being on the wrong end of a safety.

He shouldn't have punched the guy, but it looked like the guy also talked some kind of trash as he ran by laughing and poking at him -- he wasn't laughing for very long

Yeah, what Hout did was classless. He was asking for it, but that doesn't give anyone the right to punch people.

Blount is a retard. Even if he didnt get suspended, I as a coach would kick him off the team. I was watching the game and Coach Peterson was trying to call him down on the sidelines with about a minute to go in the game. The boise state player got what he deserved for talking **** when they had just beat them. I dont condone what he did but come on what do you expect? I might have done the same.

That was tasteless and glad he is gone for the season. And like it was said before this guy had a possiblity to be a 2nd to 3rd round pick to undraftable. But I have a feeling someone will take him...Raiders come to mind. But to do something like this that will ruin your life all over a football game, come on.

Shades of Carmelo Anthony...Sucker punch somebody, then run like a *****.I figured he would get suspended and even joked that they might suspend him for the season.Didn't expect that, figured maybe 4-6 games. The Boise player deserves a suspension too,he started the whole mess to begin with.

Oregon is going to suck worse now and were overrated anyways..

The punishment fit the crime. Granted, that Boise State player shouldn't have been running his mouth, but Blount could have been the bigger man and walked off.

Bull ****

Blount started it, saying that his team owed Boise State an ***-whoopin'.

Then the game is over and Hout asks Blount "How was the *** whoopin?" and Blount flips out...

If he can't take it, don't dish it out. He was the one talkin' **** the whole time before the game.....

Oregon was as good as the media rated them, just like Oklahoma would have been rated if they would have beat BYU amirite?

Bull **** nothing. He shouldn't have instigated it any further. They had already won the game,he should have called it a night and hit the showers, but no he had to rub it in.AND he set him off by touching him.Should have never happened.

Oregon will be bad without Blount and no I don't think they are as good as the media rated them especially now.

Yet another opportunity to examine the natural human instinct (or is it testesterone poisoning?) whereby retaliation escalates out of control. The greatest strength can be found in the person willing to stop it on their own. The next step would have been the Boise player bringing all his friends (guns?) to the party.

Their Moms must be proud.

If the Boise State player deserves a suspension for talking trash after the game then Blount and the Oregon QB should have been suspended before the game.

Both sides were talking trash, so by your logic everybody known to have talked trash should be suspended including Boise State players. You act like the Boise ST player had no participation at all in this.He even tapped him a couple times if you watch the tape.So really it goes past him talking trash.I would even label it taunting. He can expect to get smashed on especially after all the trash that was talked. You cannot taunt losing opponents and think they will not react. You even get penalized for that during an actual game.

Was Blount wrong for what he did?Sure, but don't suspend him for the whole season, and let the instigator walk away with no punishment at all.And yes Blount ****ED up and now he has to pay the price for it. What he did was cowardly and childish, and there is no place on the field for children or cowards. He disgraced himself, his team and his family.Forget apologies, try growing up and being a man for once instead, of an impulsive child.

He will be on a NFL roster guaranteed, he's too talented not to make it, a team will take a chance on him

You're wrong. Nobody on the Boise State team said anything resembling trash talk before the game. Coach Peterson doesn't let his players talk to the media like that. After the game, Hout just threw it back in Blount's face (which was wrong) but if you dish it out, don't be a crybaby when it comes back at you.

If Blount wants to make it in the NFL he's got to get a thicker skin. NFL defensive players will make "How was that *** whoopin'?" look like a compliment.

Blount is an idiot and has serious Anger Issues.
And the Boise State kid is an idiot as well. Here is 3 tips for him
1.Dont go looking for trouble with your helment off.
2.Dont turn your back after insulting someone.
3.Dont go looking for trouble if you take punches like a girl.

So Hout just talked trash AFTER the game?:lol:Your'e funny man.If their coach doesn't let them talk trash before the game, maybe he should concentrate on after too.At that point he didn't need to throw anything back at anybody. What did he need to prove?

Channing Crowder said this about the incident:

Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder asked reporters around his locker to cast a journalistic light on what he considered an inequity.

``No names, but there was an incident in college football, where somebody talked junk, somebody retaliated and got suspended for the entire year,'' Crowder said. ``There was an incident in NFL football last year where somebody talked junk, somebody retaliated and both of them got equally fined.''

Crowder's first reference, of course, was to the aftermath of Thursday's Oregon-Boise State game when Boise State's Byron Hout taunted Oregon's LeGarrette Blount and Blount responded with a right cross.

Blount was suspended for the rest of his senior season. Crowder's second reference was to his go-round with New England's Matt Light last season after Crowder delivered a choice piece of trash talk (and not about the score, which was 41-28 New England in the fourth quarter).

Light replied by ripping Crowder's helmet off, pulling his dreadlocks and slapping the top of his head while taking a forearm to the face in response. Crowder and Light were fined $15,000 each.

I totally agree with what he had to say.

He did concentrate on afterwords; if you will remember it was Peterson grabbing Hout which distracted him so Blount could land his sucker punch.

Like I said before, it wasn't right, but it wasn't even really talking trash, it was asking a question about Blount's comments before, that they "owe Boise State an *** whoopin'". He just asked him how the *** whoopin' went for him, got distracted by a pissed-off Peterson and got nailed.

Ok,so you now admit it was wrong.Again you don't taunt a player like that after you won the game.It was an emotional situation all the way around. He should have received some type of punishment.

Nobody said he shouldn't get punished. In fact Peterson said he would be disciplined.

He just shouldn't get suspended. Players don't get suspended for taunting.

In this situation if I am the director at Boise,I suspend him for 3-4 games. Its not only that he taunted, its what happened after he did it,and it happened because of him.

Blount wasn't suspended just for the punch. If that's all he did he probably would have walked away with a couple game suspension. It was the entire tirade, highlighted by him going after the fans, that got him kicked out. The kid should feel fortunate that noone decided to file assault charges against him......what an idiotic thing to do.

So how other players react to him determines his punishment?

If Blount walks away, no suspension. If he socks you, you get suspended?

I don't know about that.

No Blount definitely should have been suspended.I'm not sure about the whole year, but he was stupid and deserved what he got I suppose.

If you talk trash you don't expect that maybe somebody just might hit you in that predicament?Especially knowing how emotional those guys at Oregon were? After you already won the game?Rub it in more?:chuckle:You shouldn't be punished because "you only talked trash and pushed a guy"?I don't agree with that.

Maybe you should watch the fan's. Can't say I wouldn't have gotten a little jumpy myself.
