Bobby Bowden isn't sure why Florida State these days has fewer players from South Florida, but the Seminoles coach knows this much: "We're trying to get more," he said.

Bowden once built his program on a foundation of South Florida players particularly those from the Miami area. Yet now, when FSU hosted Miami Monday night, senior cornerback Patrick Robinson was the only Miami native (Gulliver Prep) who started for the Seminoles.

Three others in FSU's starting lineup left tackle Andrew Datko (St. Thomas Aquinas), receiver Richard Goodman (St. Thomas Aquinas) and defensive end Markus White (John I. Leonard) also played their high school football in South Florida, but Bowden acknowledged his program hasn't been as successful as it once was at luring talent from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

"I don't know," he said, when asked why there's less of a South Florida presence on the FSU roster. "We're trying to recruit more out of there. I think you'll see that picking up."

During FSU's national championship season in 1993, eight Florida State players from Miami alone were lettermen. In 1999, when the Seminoles went undefeated and won the national title, that number increased to 10.

FSUcks' national championships were built the same way Thug UF obtained theirs. Urban Meyer Wiener got his hands on South Florida football players during Miami's rebuilding years. Many dislike Shannon as a head coach but now that he has hired two excellent coordinators Randy can do what he does best; recruit and build the Hurricanes back into a family powerhouse once again. :)
