I'm still getting a feel for the Bible. So if these questions seem dumb to you, i'm sorry.

Anyways, what are your guys thoughts on December 12th 2012? When the world is suppose to come to an end. Do you believe in this, or do you think it's a bunch of B.S.

Another question I have. After Jesus rose from his grave it was said he was seen for a few weeks after that. Now Pilot had him killed on the cross and everything, but after he rose and everybody knew it and they saw him walking around, surley word got back to him. Did the Bible ever go into detail about how he and other Romans acted when he came back to life.

Also, can somebody tell me what exactly did Jesus do while still on earth after he rose. That always confused me.

This will be my own little thread because I always have so many questions about the Bible

Hopefully you guys can answer then and make me more wiser on the subject

thanks

Only thing I can really help you with dude is the 21st of December 2012 prophecy that the world will end. I personally feel that many people have interpreted what the Mayan's actually said wrongly. What the Mayan's believed was that the world would be transitioning from one age to the next one. Basically the final and fifth cycle will end in 2012 and we will be returning back to the first cycle. The Mayan's do predict that their will be a significant change in humanities way of life. However what type of change that is will ultimately be up to us.

Of course over the past number of years, there have been other supposed doomsday events predicted for 2012, but I wouldn't really pay too much attention to them. Every year, every week, people make silly predictions that the world will end. If the Mayan's had of stated that the end of the current cycle would happen tomorrow, you would have the same people predicting judgment day to happen tomorrow also.

Dude! that's what I've always thought, that it's a consciousness shift (not literal). Right on!

On 2012. I think the Mayans just got sick of writing the calendar. Its tough to write things out in stone and frankly I feel they got lazy. I have to say though, between the movies and all the books, people are making some serious money off the whole 2012 thing. I want some of the action.

Who says the Mayans know what they're talking about? Did they predict we'd have iPods and there would be porn on the internet too?

First off - the end of the world in 2012 has nothing to do with the bible. Just thought I would throw that out there. That should probably be it's own thread somewhere.

Regarding what did the Romans and the religious rulers of the time do when they learned Jesus had indeed risen from the dead -

1. They plotted a cover-up:

MT 28:11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened.
MT 28:12 And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,
MT 28:13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’
MT 28:14 “And if this should come to the governor’s ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.”
MT 28:15 And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day. What did Jesus do after he arose from the dead?

He appeared to many for another 40 days. These were mostly his followers and believers, and his family.

AC 1:1 The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,
AC 1:2 until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.
AC 1:3 To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.
AC 1:4 Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;
AC 1:5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
AC 1:6 So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”
AC 1:7 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;
AC 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

And to me 2012 does have something to do with the Bible. The end of the world as many predicted is to be in 2012. While the bible says the world will do the same, just not when I believe.

So yes, both are on-topic

Can you tell me where?

I believe in the bible, so if the world will end in three years, that has a lot to do with what I do with my money between now and then....ya know?

There are many theorists that have pointed toward 2012, most famously the Mayans, who did not mention the end of the world literally. Archaeologists and Maya linguists are still learning the language today, and it is beleived we only know 20-30% of the heiroglyphs. The Maya have two calandars, the long count and the short count, the long count is what everyone is talking about since we enter a new bak'tun in 2012 once converted to the Mayan date. These calandars are found at many sites, most popularly Tortugero and Chilam Balam My take- the Mayans have these bak'tuns, ka'tuns and other measurements to FORECAST what those time periods will encompass. I personally do not believe in fate, or that you can truly predict the future like that, however religious groups all over the world come up with different systems that help explain the world to spiritually lost peoples.

IChing - I dont know as much on this theory but I will explain what i can. This ancient chinese book, also known as the book of changes contains 64 hexagrams, where terrance mckenna decontructed the hexagrams and used it to create a linear time model. His starting dtae was the one provided by the book, and the linear model of the hexagram ends on 2012. I love McKenna's work on ethnobotony, philosophy and shamanism, I've read many of those books, nothing much about I Ching, I personally don't think the deconstruction of the hexagrams renders much of an important date.

astronomers have recently learned that our solar system is about to reach our galactic equator, which will cause a shift in the magnetic poles. Geologists have proven life can still exist after a polar shift, through fossils and how the rocks magnetize (once rock is formed, magnetic north is inscribed into the rock), so now, geologists see every 200k? yrs the poles change, however life has still remained. with no documented accounts, scientists are unsure what affect the polar shift may cause, some think the shift could hapen over thoussands of years, some may think in shorter, more immediate span. Temperatures will change, sea levels, millions of people WILL die, but there will still be many places livable in the world.

man theres so many others on the internet that are popping up, now this movie. As a archaeologist with an M.A in Mayan Archaeology, i'm not saying i know all, or the true answers, but i wouldn't worry. The linguists, hierogylph experts, the calandric decoders and the archaeology communities laugh at how everyone thinks it's the end of the world. We've told you guys before, but it's fun and will sell alot of movie tickets. My theory is the movie executives traveled back in time and teamed up with the Mayans to create an excellent marketing ploy for the movie.

Can't help you with the Jesus info, even though I was born Catholic, I've never read the bible, and have read the holy books of 3 other religions. lol! I'll talk about the Mayans all day, we have alot of scientific evidence to support our claims, I cannot comment on the life of Jesus when there isn't much archaeological evidence to answer your questions

Thanks for the insight dude, really interesting stuff there.

What always confused me though is why is there such a craze about the Mayan prediction. Did the Mayans actually have a strong track record in prophecy (ala Nostradamus) or did they even have any interest in it at all?
