I love Bear Bryant...but Coach Wooden is without a doubt, the greatist coach
in any sport.period.

Keep in mind he coached for a LONG time w/o winning anything until Sam Gilbert started paying players to go to UCLA.

Nobody holds stuff like that against Pete Carrol now at USC.
LOL.

you absolutely took the words out of my mouth (or keyboard such as it is). He's beyond iconic and revered by anyone with whom he's come in contact including all his players. A national treasure, there'll never be anyone like him again.. and that's not even factoring in his prodigious success!

Happy Birthday Coach Wooden

and this cynicism is coming from someone who probably still doesn't believe that Mangini left NJ with an confidential, under-the-table "severance" package as quid pro quo for agreeing to assume the part of Cleveland's Charley Finley to Tannenbaum's George Steinbrenner.

I won't get into who I know/knew from having at one time lived in Ventura County and still having property there, but believe me, Coach Wooden is God (and that's coming from a Deist!).

Wooden was great but he didn't win anything until Sam Gilbert started paying players to go to UCLA. Every great coach needs great players, he had his paid for.
