View Full Version : Draft Explosion

Here goes my third mock...

1. Jahvid Best - RB, Cal -- A year ago the talk was about finding explosive players and the Dolphins reportedly were very interested in Percy Harvins. Best is a similar player in that he can go the distance every time the ball is in his hands. Perhaps the most explosive player in college football, Best hits the hole like lightning and has great hands in the passing game. Miami's biggest playmaker on offense remains Ricky Williams and he is one year closer to retirement. Ronnie Brown is coming off his second major injury in three years and Ted Ginn, despite some nice work in the return game, has been a disappointment. Some may call this a luxury pick, but was Johnson a luxury pick for the Titans?

2. Golden Tate - WR - Notre Dame -- The more I see this guy play the more I think he is exactly what the Dolphins need. Though he isn't 6-3 with 4.3 speed, Tate plays bigger than his 5-11 height, goes up for the ball exceptionally well, has great hands and runs great routes. In short, he is a tough football player. I like the Steve Smith comparisons. It might be a bit of a pipe dream to think he's around in the 2nd, though. I think he is now a late first rounder and, honestly, the only receiver I'd take before him would be Dez Bryant.

3. Brandon Lang - DE/OLB - Troy -- The Dolphins need to find another young pass rusher with Joey Porter and Jason Taylor both closing in on the ends of their playing days.

4. Jimmy Graham - TE - Miami -- There just aren't many 6-8 people who can run in the 4.6 range. Graham is a project, but has tremendous upside. The Dolphins tight ends have been a major disappointment this season.

6. Cam Thomas -- DT/NT - North Carolina -- Bill Parcells has had success finding NT later in the draft. Thomas has the size at 6-3, 330.

6. Thomas Austin -- C - Clemson -- Jake Grove is first rate, but he has been injury prone. I've watched Spiller a lot at Clemson and Austin stood out a few times.

6. Kelton Tindale -- Wr. - Newberry -- Here is the 6-3 wide receiver with 4.3 speed. A small school sleeper.

7. Mark Herzlich -- OLB -- Boston College - This guy was a first round talent before battling cancer. Maybe it's worth taking a shot that he will recover fully.

7. Torrell Troup -- DT -- Central Florida -- Another NT prospect.

I got laughed at for saying I want Tate in the second round on another site. Many people believe he'll be gone before the end of the first.

I really like Jahvid Best but I think we will go with a LB in the first round....I do think we need a RB and I think West Virginia's Noel Devine is a very fast smaller back just like Best. I also would love Golden Tate.....he has the best hands in college football and is tough. Rolando McClain and a #1 WR like Tate, or a solid Running Back like Best or Devine would be great (I think Devine is a junior but should be coming out). Also don't forget about Toby Gerhart of Stanford, but looks like he is also moving into the first round.

A RB in the 1st. Having one of the worst defenses in the league and you want a RB in the 1st. No ILB at all in this mock. Big no thanks to this mock.

Apparently having R.Brown, R.Williams, P.Cobbs and L.Hillard isn't enough but Crowder and Akin is????

He probably will end up going in the first round, but he definately will be gone before our second pick comes around.

If we take a HB it will be in rounds 4 and up and I hope Miami thinks about taking Craig Cooper from the U if he is around or declares.

No thanks. I'm a Canes homer and I don't even want Coop or James for that matter. Hopefully Coop stays another year though. I'm in love with Damien Berry though.

Like someone above said, Noel Devine. He's projected in the later rounds, and he's small but explosive. Dolphins can't afford to waste first round pick on a RB.

My dream draft would be McClain in the first and a trade up for Tate. The more I see of McClain, though, I think he'll be gone before Miami picks. I'll check into Noel Devine. Love Gerhart if Brown is not re-signed.

If we draft a RB in the first round I will kill myself. We have major needs that need addressed. MLB, NT, WR. I hope we can find a player at the top of our board that fills one of those positions I mentioned. Love Golden Tate, just hopw he is there in the 2nd for us.

Noel Devine is a small fast guy kind of like a Percy Harvin. I think he could be used as a RB or WR out of the backfield....or be a slot WR like a Wes Welker. I think Devine has 4.2 or 4.3 speed and he's tough to tackle. I'm not 100% sure if he is coming out, but I think there is a good chance he will.

I don't know what the obsession is of drafting a WR. We JUST DRAFTED 2 guys last year and a 1st rounder in 07. U guys need to be more patient with what we have as far as a "young" receiver is concerned. We need a veteran guy . . . period. I don't trust another young WR on this team, and I don't want to draft another young WR . . . especially not in the first 2 rounds.

We need a ILB, NT and a TE. And FA WR needs to be the #1 priority. Not a drafted WR.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. This draft is not that good for WR's, but is filled with defensive talent. We need that defensive talent. We need a veteran WR. I think it's pretty much a given that Antonio Bryant will be a dolphin. Next draft is where I want young WR's. Julio Jones, AJ Green, Michael Floyd, Demaryius Thomas, Terrance Tolliver, Leonard Hankerson (homer pick). My god it could be the best WR core ever...

Our veteran WR is G.Cam with 4years and people want to draft a 1st round WR and somehow that's gonna help.

I agree we need to address this in FA and get a real good one, A.Bryant fits the bill. A.Boldin if he could be had at a reasonable trade price.
