Artie Lange's life is no laughing matter these days.

The troubled comedian and Howard Stern (http://www.celebuzz.com/celebrities/howard-stern/) sidekick was rushed to the hospital in New York over the weekend, and now the New York Post (http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/stern_sidekick_in_suicide_try_5m9Hwhn1OvpONlzbsiW3oJ#ixzz0bvNX7PO0) has the grim details behind his hospitalization.

According to sources, Lange's mother called 911 after arriving at the comic's Hoboken apartment on Saturday to drop off food, only to find her son bleeding heavily. It was later found that Lange sustained six "hesitation wounds" and three deep cuts in an apparent suicide attempt. Despite heavy bleeding, Lange—who has struggled with addiction in years passed—was saved by surgeons.

During his radio show this week, Stern praised the comic for his contributions while acknowledging his troubles, noting,

"We all have our demons. Artie has given this show tremendous moments of great comedy. He's a tremendous contributor. He is a good man. Don't forget how great he is."

As reported in his auto-biography Too Fat Too Fish, Lange has struggled with thoughts of suicidal thoughts in the past and has at least one previous suicide attempt on public record.

To be fair ... If I was ever photographed in an Ohio State shirt, I might consider the same thing.

A famous quote from Chris Farley;

"Everyone laughs when the fat guy falls down."

I still start to tear up when I think about it.

He wouldn't be as funny if he weren't a wreck. He's a perfect Stern Sidekick.
