View Full Version : Why I think Spiller is better #1 pick

It just seems like rookie HBs make an impact so much more than rookie WRs. Fact is WRs take time to develop and the transition is usually made smoother by an established veteran on the roster. We have no such player for Dez Bryant so the answer there would seem to be sign a FA veteran WR and look to draft next year's Dez. Meanwhile Spiller could impact immediately in a rotation with Ronnie and Ricky (last year too remember?) I like the idea of building via draft but some positions like WR and NT, just need an established guy first to bring the rookie along. Youth is one thing our WR corps is not lacking.

So I am hoping for a WR and a NT and Carlos Dansby in FA.

And a draft something like this:

RD 1. Spiller (Has Ronnie and Ricky to mentor him)
RD 2. FS Nate Allen (YB gets him)
RD 3. TE Jimmy Graham (Fasano needs resigned for now too)
RD 4. Sharpton (Zach was smallish too coming out) Crowder and JT can hopefully bring him along but it will be Crowder and Ayodele starting again if Dansby is not signed.

6-7 (5 picks) spent on the usual OL/DL/LB/DB's that we haven't heard of yet but the scouting staff has uncovered to improve the bottom half of the roster by making the 53 man roster outright or at least providing competition in camp.

Anyway, offseason is what hoping is for, right?

i like Spiller he is top 3 with McClain, and Dez. True playmaker, true value. Not biggest need but need doesnt always make a team better. I don't like your draft, i would much rather pay my money for Rolle or Dansby and than draft heavy D. Mabey sneak Price in the 3rd if he even lasts.

After your first pick, I pretty much hate your draft, but I like Spiller. Also, if we pick Spiller, we should trade Brown if we can get a 2nd.

I like Spiller but waiting till the 4th round to get a linebacker is nonsense.

I hate this draft. If we get Spiller, I would trade Ronnie for a 2nd. Then with two 2nd round picks we get 2 LB's or a LB and a TE.

I am not a fan of drafting Spiller. I understand that we might lose both Ronnie and Ricky after this season.

However, the Phins had the #4 rushing attack and still no playoffs. A better rushing attack doesn't improve the team. With that said, defense obviously would hurt us more then a slide in the running attack would. Spiller, IMO does not improve this team more then a FS/NT/OLB/ILB or a WR at this point.

So, I guess according to that, Spiller would be my sixth choice.

I think it would be a wasted pick. I have high hopes for Sheets, Cobbs, and Hillard. Give them a chance. We need a defense. How many times did we have long drives to give up points in less than a minute?

I like Spiller but we're really talent starved at our LB corps. When was the last time we spent a 1st round pick on a LB? I had to look it up. Offerdahl in 1986. The highest pick we've spent on lb's in recent years is Channing Crowder in the 3rd round. We need more talent at LB. Why is our RB corps so good? We've got Ricky and Ronnie two former first round picks. Sometimes you can find a hidden gem in the later rounds but you can't plan for that. Guys like Zach Thomas and Tom Brady who you get in the 5th or 6th round and become superstars can't be planned for. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and just draft talent and our LB corps needs it inside and out.

SPILLER is an awesome NFL Prospect. But we have an ALARMING ALARMING NEED for LBs. If you believe the best defense is a good RUNNING GAME then take SPILLER.

Couple of issues with Spiller...

1.) What if he's more Reggie Bush/Darren McFadden than he is Chris Johnson? I know all speed RBs are getting the Chris Johnson comparison now but more often than not they have trouble running between the tackles in the NFL ala Bush and DMac. I don't know for sure but I'd feel more comfortable with a bruiser type ala the Jets rookie Shonn Greene.

2.) 1.12 is a very high pick to use on a running back given how short their shelf-lives are. Spiller isn't even a junior.

3.) Our defense is desperate for help. We might be better off with a guy like Brandon Graham or Dan Williams at 1.12 and then wait until the 3rd round or even 4th round for bruiser type RBs like Ben Tate or Anthony Dixon.

Spiller runs very well between the tackles, and he doesn't look to bounce everything. He actually looks a lot like C. Johnson - kind of glides down the line of scrimmage.

Spiller is the best player in this draft! I still want McClain!

chris johnson was the 24th pick and the 5th rb taken. believe me he wouldn't have been selected at #12.

Not that this would ever be a deciding factor but BP has always loved to work with Returnmen. It was one of his favourite things to do in practice was to work on all aspects of returning the football with his guys.

Just a thought.

Right, he'd number 1 overall if teams new he'd be this good.

If spiller is to be the choice. ( which i love, best value, will be a stud, not quite as good as Chris Johnson though) Ronnie is a must trade. if he is going to be traded for a 2nd, i like this.

1st- Spiller, RB
2nd- Spikes, ILB
2nd- Best OLB availible
3rd- Best NT avalible (troupe, Thomas, Robinson)
4th- Jimmy Graham, Ed Dickson, Aaron Hernandez, Dennis Pitta, TE

6-7, Upside Picks.

Then sign A. Rolle (FS), and A. Bryant (WR)

i'm sure people said the same thing about AP.. "i'd love to have him, he wont be as good as LT tho"... hahaha, just sayin. You never know who's going to be the next big thing.

not commenting on your overall draft... but yes Spiller is a good RB... but what we need at this time to thrive is not a future RB that will progress into a rotation.

we have too much need in many other spots especially defense, and WR...

i do agree though that a WR 1st round is scary, and tons of busts have occurred there, hence maybe a Dez Bryant who has the abilities and makings of one of them WR's... but a McClain, Iupati, other LB or maybe a DT at the top picks are interesting prospects. if not..... trade down a bit!!!
