From Profootballtalk.com:

"Finally, word is linebacker Rolondo McClain ran a 4.74 forty. That's about what he was expected to do; McClain seems likely to get taken in the middle of the first round."

Seems slow to me.

I doubt this even matters, since we took Dansby and all.

it could .... we might still take him and move crowder outside

anyway i think thats slow for a 4-3 MLB

I'd probably add a tenth to that time.

This isn't Ohio State's track where 40 times are inflated...

I don't quite understand what you mean. I'm saying that he probably runs slower than that. Hand timed 40 yard dash ftl.

Ohio State's track is notorious among the scouting community as the "fastest track", so to speak...among all of the pro days....

The 40 times are slightly inflated.....some scouts will do exactly what you just mentioned....they'll add as much as a tenth to their hand held times....

Hand held times are where you're more likely to deduct a tenth...due to your own reflexes being a fraction off......for the electronic times...the machine still has to be started by hand...

On game day...you can deduct several tenths off McClain's 40 time....

4.5 + false steps, misdiagnosis, etc. = 4.8

4.7 + correct angles, getting the jump, amazing instincts = 4.5

if we draft a ILB i hope we can trade down a couple spots and get Sean Weatherspoon

Agree, I would love to address a need while accumilating a pick. Sweet!

He's still hurt and left early. His speed isn't a positive, but I doubt any GM's are extremely concerned about it.

Crowder probably slower than McClain, why would we put him outside...

Crowder is slower than McClain....I think he ran a 4.7 at his pro day....and that was 5 years ago....

With those creaky knees now, combined with poor instincts, misdiagnosis, and bad angles.....his functional game speed is slower than that now...

The bottom line is if you use 40 time's to place value on ILB's and/or use it as anything close to the bottom line....it's just a recipe for disaster...

Instincts, getting the jump, correct angles, 10, 20 yard burst, etc....are all what makes great ILB's....not 40 times...

McClain told reporters he has had Crohn's disease since he was a freshman in high school.

Not that it matters....but something that nobody really knows about him is that he's adopted.....he's overcome a lot more in his life to get where he's at than people think..

Sean Weatherspoon is a Beast...but doesnt meat the "Trifectas" size requirements for ILB, hence part of the reason they cut Zach Thomas, so id be very surprised if they went for him in the draft. its still fairly uncertain wether or not he could take-on & get-off blocks consistently as a 3-4 inside guy?!!?!

so why does the guy in the other mcclain pro day thread say he ran a 4.54???

There were dozens of scouts with stopwatches. There are fifty different times out there.

Crowder probably runs a 5 second 40 yard dash at this point. He is slow as hell and can never get to the perimeter to make a tackle.

Linebacker Rolando McClain was the main attraction of the day as he missed all of the workouts in Indianapolis at the combine due to a hamstring injury. He weighed in at 249 pounds and ran a 4.69 and 4.68 40-yard-dash. In addition, McClain ran his short shuttle in 4.41 and his three-cone drill in 7.91. He posted a vertical jump of 35.0 and broad jump of 9-1.

Three cone drill in 7.91 ????? That MUST be a typo... maybe 6.91.

The last two digits are reversed...it should be a 7.19....

These 40 times are a little closer to the official 4.66 that I originally got for him......if you ask a dozen scouts that timed him with their hand held times...you're going to get a dozen different times usually..
