View Full Version : LA County Bans Use of Master/Slave in Relation to Computer Drives

Here's the letter.... (http://www.reason.com/hitandrun/003490.shtml#003490) And here's CONFIRMATION by Snopes. (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/master.asp)

Anyway, this is absolutely incredible. The "PC Police" are attempting to get into the world of PCs!! How fitting!! You were right, Mr. Orwell. You were right all along.

For those who are not familiar with computer terminology, Master/Slave refers to a drive's (hard drive, CD-ROM, etc) level of control on an IDE channel. Most if not all drives are labeled this way. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with race, color, creed, or religion. And the only way someone could contrue it as such is if they #1) had nothing better to do #2) knew absolutely ZERO about computers. Heck, I'm sure Boone thinks of S & M when he hears "master/slave". :jk: Boone.

Only in Los Angeles I guess. My favorite comment.....

"ooh wait! Here's an even better one! Will LA County ban its employees from eating at McDonalds because they're now advertising new All-White-Meat Chicken Mcnuggets? As if white is better than dark! HA! If master/slave is offensive, LA County better start closing McDonalds in LA too. "

And so it goes......

The sad part is that some will take that some will take that promotion by McDonald's as being insensitive. Maybe they can say "breast/leg meat." Nope can't do that either. How about calling the "white" meat "appendage-challenged."

I like dark meat.
