According to the Miami Herald the Dolphins met with Golden Tate (http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2010/02/noon-update-the-talk-in-indianapolis-according-to-cordero-is-that-dansby-could-be-signed-by-miami-to-play-solb-rather-tha.html) on Friday evening. Its highly unlikely that Bill Parcells would consider selecting Tate, or any receiver, with the 12th pick. But even if he fell to the 2nd round Im not sure hes a great fit for the Dolphins.

Even if Tate reaches his full potentially hell never be that type of player. Hes too small to be an elite red zone threat and not fast enough to stretch the field with consistensy.
Tate is essentially a slower version of Percy Harvin a guy that can line up anywhere on the field and has a sense for finding ways to get open. Unlike most true No. 1 receivers, he does his damage after the ball is already in his hands, at which point he becomes a running back.
What the Dolphins need is someone who can get open on his own. They already have a guy to stretch the field (Ted Ginn), a possession receiver (Davone Bess) and a slot receiver (Brian Hartline). Now they need someone who can win the one-on-one matchups, especially in the red zone.
Tate can be a valuable asset for someone, but Miami just isnt the right fit.
I tend to agree if we go reciever its dez benn or mike williams.

well, I doubt he's our number 1 target but he does make plays.I'm still hoping for Bryant and if not then Thomas or maybe Benn but Tate's a pretty good player too who I believe would make more plays than any of our WR's at this moment makes.

Ozzy rules!!

Cant see Tate being there in the 2nd round at our pick. But if he is there then I would be happy if we selected him.

Tate definately is going to be a good NFL player. I really hope the patriots dont take him. Doubt they will. But i completely agree that he isnt the type of reciever we really need right now. Bryant, Benn, or Williams fit

I can see Steve Smith potential. I haven't seen much of Tate at all. All I saw, pretty much, was a combine drill in which he dropped like 5 out of 7 passes. Is he normally that bad with catching? We dont need another butta fingers. I'd love to have a true #1 though.

I live in Chicago and they air every ND game up here... Tate made Clausen look VERY good.. Look at how many of Tates deep TDs were throws that Clausen just chucked up there and hoped Tate made a play.. and way more times than not, he did.

Also, to an above poster, I'd rather take D Thomas WAY before Williams.

We need a #1 receiver, but I'm not convinced that it has to be some 6'4" monster.

If you look at the top WRs last year, half of them were around Golden Tate's height (5'11").

Like Reggie Wayne, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, DeSean Jackson, Hines Ward, Steve Smith, and Santonio Holmes.

If we take Golden Tate in the 2nd, I'd be fine with that.

The reason they are talking to these players that won't be there for our second round pick and are not valuable enough to be picked at 12, like Tate and Benn, is in case of a trade. They have to accurately set up their board. That means every single player, in every round, what their value is at certain picks. Lets say they trade back into the 20's and pick up an extra 2nd. You can't "scout" a whole new set of players available in the 20's in a couple of hours. Your board has to be flexible for alot of different situations, including the Raider's selections.:chuckle:

I actually think Golden Tate is precisely the type of WR the Dolphins need: a YAC specialist. We need a player who will take a bubble screen to the house. Tate is that guy.

Agreed. We dont have a single player on our team like him. Everybody gets wrapped up in height, but I bet most people here would love to have Desean Jackson on our roster. What's just as ironic is that nobody would have wanted us to draft Jackson prior to seeing he success so far kinda like nobody wants us to get Tate. Tate is a much better WR prospect than Jackson was coming out.

I won't think that he is a #1 untill he proves otherwise
