View Full Version : Could calorie signs kill bacon cheeseburgers?

Will a national requirement for chain restaurants to post calorie counts sound the death knell for bacon cheeseburgers and double chocolate doughnuts?

The calorie-posting mandate, signed into law by President Barack Obama as part of the health care overhaul, assumes diners will feel the culinary equivalent of sticker shock when confronted with calorie counts for greasy, sugary and fatty foods.

Anti-obesity advocates also hope that forcing restaurants to reveal calorie counts will coax the chains to offer healthier options.

Well, that made me hungry.

Please, Lord, just one bacon cheeseburger to fall from the sky and land on my plate. Just one is all I ask.

Edit: FH clocks are fixed, now new posts will slot before the ones that were posted "in the future" until the time difference passes.

When I am hungover and need grease there isn't a sign you could post that would stop me from eating something short of flat-out saying I **** on your food and even then I would weigh my options.

I hope not. I love those things.

All I can say is my wife and I went into a Ruby Tuesday a few years ago and they had included nutrition info on every single item. You wouldn't believe some of the numbers on stuff you'd think were okay to eat.

I agree with the move. It won't distract fat people from eating what they love but it will give others who are curious but have no idea the necessary info for them to make the right choice on what to eat.

Bacon cheeseburgers are invincible to all who would stand in their path.

I'm just thankful that my opponent in the next round of the FHMM is not a Bacon Cheeseburger.

... it would truly be brutal.

Hmmm ...

I'm voting for Bumpus.

It won't kill the fast food biz. People know that it's unhealthy when they order it. I remember when Burger King came out with that 2000 calorie breakfast sandwich. I knew it, ordered it anyway, and enjoyed it. I'm not obese or overweight either. I stay active, though.

Hey, why not? Nutrition info is only available everywhere on the net, and only the lazy or stupid won't or don't find it.

It won't hurt business a bit.

It def. won't hurt this place in Arizona! They thrive on bucking the system! Weigh over 350lbs and you eat for FREE! Gotta try it someday soon........

One of my managers at work has been there. He said I need to go some time that it's pretty interesting. If you finish the quadruple they will wheel you out in a wheelchair. Also, the fries are still cooked in lard there and served on a tray.

A quadruple burger served with fries cooked in LARD?

Dear God.

IMO, numerical calorie count is lost on much of the public, especially with the relative fat, carb, protein etc info. A better public guide to drive home the pitfalls of overindulgence would be a graphic 1-5 "FatAzz" rating with azz photos ranging from Lindsay Lohan's to Kirstie Alley's.

Calorie count or no Calorie count, bacon cheeseburgers are not going away. As of late, it seems like this country is having a giant love affair with bacon.

America's love affair with bacon is well-deserved.
