View Full Version : Plenty of Wide Receivers for Dolphins to pick from

Determined to find another playmaker, the Dolphins have cast a wide net in their receiver search. Some buzz on Miami's draft options:
Besides bringing in Dez Bryant, Miami has shown interest in Notre Dame's Golden Tate; had receivers coach Karl Dorrell work out Arrelious Benn in Illinois; and had private workouts with LSU's Brandon LaFell, Ohio's Taylor Price and Syracuse's Mike Williams.
Regarding Bryant, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said Bill Parcells ``loves being a mentor,'' and Parcells is ``very close'' with Bryant's agent, Eugene Parker. But ``I just don't know if he'll pull the trigger'' on Bryant, Mortensen said. He added that Bryant's agents hired a life-skills coach for him and that Oklahoma State coaches have said Bryant is not a character problem but is gullible and had time-management issues.
One scout for a team picking after Miami, hoping Bryant falls, indicated criticism has been overstated -- Bryant never was arrested -- and that his on-field performance speaks for itself. Oklahoma State has denied a report that Bryant showed up 30 minutes before a game. Though several mock drafts (including Mel Kiper's) have him going 11th, some believe he could fall.
Who, besides Bryant, can be a No. 1 receiver? ``Demaryius Thomas is, and Benn has the talent to be,'' ex-Browns scout/Sporting News analyst Russ Lande said. But both could be chosen between Miami's picks at Nos. 12 and 43.

I want two receivers. A #1 and a legit #2. If that can't work this year, then draft a #2 this year and get the #1 in next year's draft.

Hartline looked like a legit number 2, the Fins need a #1 and a receiver that can stretch the field and can also KR/PR thats name is not Ginn.

Benn has a world of talent. To a much lesser extent I like Shay Hodge.

See this is the thing about all of these WR's . . . is their a guarantee that these guys will be better than the young WR's we have. We JUST drafted 2 guys last year, both of them fairly early in my eyes.

We only NEED to draft one WR, period. This guy needs to have the make up of a #1 calibur WR. There isn't too many of those in this draft.

Bryant is the most NFL ready and probably the most ready to make an impact as a #1 guy. Benn also could be that guy. Bey Bey seems to have the makeup, but he may take a minute, he was in a college triple option offense. I just don't see the fans being content on waiting 2 or 3 years for him to come around fully.

I say just play the game . . . see if Bryant falls, hell see if you can trade up if you can. Trade up for Benn in round 2 . . . or Thomas if we really like him. If not, unless a guy slips through the cracks we need to make it a priority next year. We can't draft 2 more WR's this year . . . we need a FS, OLB, NT and a TE all before a NON #1 WR.

Shay Hodge looked real nice during the Senior Bowl, but I have been told he still needs a lot of time to develop and the Fins need someone who can step in right away.

Nah man, you can't say that after last season. Yea he showed some flashes but I can't call him a #2 yet. He probably will start this upcoming year, but I can't call him a legit starting WR just yet. I need to see more, but I am glad that it looks as if we got a piece to the WR puzzle in the last draft.

I'm not totally sold that this front office has given up on Ginn either. Definitely some mental issues last year . . . but it wouldn't suprise me if Ginn came into camp refocused and with something to prove. I would love a:

1. Dez Bryant
2. Ted Ginn Jr. (new and improved)
3. Davone Bess
4. Brian Hartline
5. Greg Camarillo
6. Patrick Truner

WR group.

Lot's of young talent, a legitimate #1, a speedster/#2, a slot specialist, a young potential #2 in Hartline, a trusty Camarillo and a redzone/possession guy in Turner. I dunno, it will be interesting.

As for our KR/PR . . . we need to get a 5th CB who can do that . . . how about the kid from FAMU?

We do need to see more from Hartline, but this year he showed me a lot of good things. Good run after the catch guy, Red Zone threat and excellent route runner. He is only gonna get better.

Ginn regressed, dropped passes, struggle in KR, cannot PR and lacks balls.

I agree he regressed, but the whole 6 pack thing is a joke. All I'm saying is that there is still talent and SPEED there, and you don't just throw that away. I say you see what he has in camp, see if he has come in refreshed and focused. WORST CASE scenario is you don't upgrade WR, you keep him on as a decoy and some Special Teams work and you get rid of him next year. But I don't think he was bad to the point where we draft WR TWICE again and neglect other positions in which those mid round picks could do us some justice. I'm tired of wasted draft picks, and White and Turner both look blah (not giving up hope tho) . . . let's finish this defense. Get an UPGRADE with Bryant or Benn . . . don't add to the infusion of youth and talent that we already have at the #3 to #5 WR positions.

I think it all depends on the round.

Round 1 I have Dez Bryant and only Dez Bryant as a possibility at 12.

Round 2 you got to look towards Arrelious Benn and Demaryius Thomas.

Round 3 I would think about Taylor Price, Mardy Gilyard and Mike Williams.

After that, there's not much, but I also like Shay Hodge.

Here would be my way of drafting a reciever... No matter what in the 6th round we draft Freddie Barnes he is a steal...
I say we take Dez first if not
Take Demaryius Second if not
Take Mike Williams 4th

Unless we get a decent trade offer or he can be used in a draft day trade, he will be here.

I'm not gonna buy into all of the "rumors", probably 1 out of every 10 are correct, and that is generous. He is a Miami Dolphin as of now, and we have go forward with him until that changes. We cut Wilson, Ayodele and Porter . . . if we were THAT unhappy with him, we would have cut ties. We want him to improve, that is for sure, but ala Jason Allen, I think he sticks around and spite all of his critics. Maybe the Fins feel like they can get a 3rd or 4th . . . I don't think his value is there, but his potential is still there.

Now if we draft 2 more WR's, I would be more concerned, but I honestly feel like all this WR stuff is nonsense/smokescreen, and we are going to COMPLETE Nolan's defense this draft, starting with getting a FS.
