I would really like to have the option of deleting a post of mine if I become aware that someone has made an identical post before mine. Is this possible?

I used to be able to do that, but now for some reason I can not. There is no delete option on my posts

are you talking about a post or a thread? you cannot delete your own thread, but a post within a thread you can.

I am sorry. I am talking about a new thread I post. I do not understand why I can not delete my own thread. What is the reasoning behind this?

If you start a new thread that is a topic already posted, a mod or admin will merge it with the other thread. Posts you can delete.

the reasoning is, that every thread (within reason) can stir good debate, what if you create a great thread, then happen to get into a pissing contest with another member, and rather than report it to a mod you just up and delete the thread out of spite? do those other members who participated in a good debate deserve to have thier posts deleted along with the thread? thats part of the reason anyway. there are other reasons but I'm short on time to discuss all of them.
