There is a cluse in his contract that if he holds out the deal expands to 7 years and not 4 while if he doesn't hold out we cannot franchise him after 4 years. I'm not worried.

after the cba is dne and the slaray cap numbers are clear....they will either sign revis to a long deal that will keep him a jet for along time, or trade him. so righ tnow we have him for a guaranteed 2 years. nothing to worry about right this second.

So what, the Jets had him under contract for 3 years this time. That clause will not stop anything. The only way the contract stops him from holding out in 2012 is if the bonus money is somehow tied to years beyond 2011. If not, he will almost certainly hold out in 2012.

That's what I said when I saw the contract details on TGG (and got roasted) - now Revis is saying the same thing. Hopefully the bonus money is attached to future years service.

Regardless of whether or not it's feasible, it was a douchebag thing for him to say.

It just means we hold the hammer. he can hold out as long as he wants but we'll have his rights so he has to get a deal done w/ us.

I expected he'd try the same thing a few years from now if another long term deal isn't agreed upon but for him to say anything about it now is frustrating.

And that is different from this year how?

Right, his "apology" to fans about the holdout was nothing but BS. He's a douche, but a great douche. Hopefully we can trade him for two #1's next time he does it.

It's different in the fact that we have at least 2 years to work on a long term deal which I expect they will as long as he stays healthy.

It's better to have great jerks than average good guys. He's a businessman, not all players treat it the way he does but we knew this from the time he was a rookie. As long as he still plays like possibly the best defensive player in the game we'll survive w/ it.

why would they be looking at working out a long term deal right now? He just signed a 4 year deal. You generally don't start working on the next contract until there's only a year left.

The situation will be no different in 2012 than it was in 2010 unless the bonus money is attached to years beyond 2011 in writing.

He had 3 years left on the original deal so in essences this was a 1 year extension and gave him more money up front. They will be working on a bigger deal w/in the nexy year or 2 to get him locked up for 6-8 years w/ the next deal.
