Another ex-Military old timer administering some Dirty Harry flavored street justice.

83-year-old pulls semi-automatic handgun on would-be robber (http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/specials/weirdflorida/blog/2010/09/83yearold_pulls_semiautomatic_1.html)

Shortly after he left Castillo's restaurant in Clearwater on Thursday morning, 83-year-old Charles Place was approached by a transient that wanted Place to buy him a meal, reports Tampa Bay Online. (http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/sep/24/242009/83-year-old-pulls-gun-scares-away-robber/news-breaking/)

Place declined to buy Bryan Treloar, the 43-year-old transient, any food.

But Treloar kept talking to him, asking "silly questions" and claiming to know him from Alcoholics Anonymous. Place said he had never been a member of AA and became suspicious of Treloar, according to TBO.com.

That's when Treloar tried to take his wallet, according to TBO.com.

"He put his hand in my pocket here," Place told TBO.com. "And I grabbed his arm with both my hands. And I screamed, 'Hey!' and he let me go."

Place, a retired Navy sailor, was knocked to the ground, but managed to pull his .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun from his pocket, reports TBO.com.

Treloar ran away, but two witnesses followed him and called police. Treloar was taken into custody Thursday morning, reports TBO.com.

In hindsight, Place told TBO.com he wished the incident would've happened differently.
"I would have bought him something to eat, I think," he said.
