BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP)—A person familiar with negotiations has told The Associated Press that Dave Wannstedt has agreed to a multiyear deal to become the Buffalo Bills assistant head coach.

The person said the deal was reached Friday, and spoke on the condition of anonymity because it had not yet been announced by the Bills.

Wannstedt spent the past six years coaching the University of Pittsburgh, where he was forced to resign last month. In Buffalo, he’ll be reunited with Bills head coach Chan Gailey.

Wannstedt was the Miami Dolphins coach when he hired Gailey as his offensive coordinator in 2000. The two worked together for two years.

Wannstedt is a defensive specialist and will help oversee a defense that struggled last season.

Jay Fiedler should be joining that QB competition anytime now....

Let's hope that when Gailey leaves, he vouches for Wanny to take over the way Jimmy Johnson did in Miami

This might not be good news for us as he is a pretty good DC.

I'll bet Buffalo switches to a 4-3.

Good for him. This should make playing them more fun. Buffalo is the most irrelevant team in the league. Anything to make them remotely interesting until they're pushed up to Toronto.

It would be fun to bring ricky back and see how that goes when we play them.
