The more I hear the more I think he wont be there when 15 comes around. I dont care what we do I want this kid so do what you can to make sure you land him.

I think Mallett is better than Ponder and all of the other 2nd tier QBs, however we can't afford to trade up for him and I'm not sure we can afford to take him at 15. We have too many holes not to at least try and trade back. If he's there at 15 and we can't trade back I say grab him. We can draft RBs late and go OL TE in the 3rd and 4th rounds. I'm not a fan of Mallett's but we do need to roll the dice. I just don't know if Tony and Jeff will gamble.

He never suggested Beck should be a top ten 1st rounder like he did Mallett, nor did he say the type of things he did about Mallett.

Don't let Paul Burmeister hear Phil say that.

The fact that Simms liked Beck almost makes me respect his evaluations a little more. Beck and Mallett couldn't be more different. I like a guy that sees talent in different shapes and sizes.

Yeah but unfortunately he seems to find "talent" in any polished turd that comes along.

That said I am a big Mallet guy, if he is there at #15 and we pass on him (as I believe we will) I might have to consider how invested this FO and franchise is in winning, and wether I want to keep supporting them with my time and money.

Beck had some talent. it just wasn't enough for the NFL. that happens sometimes. actually, that happens to most college QB's.

I wish Phil Simms would quit....listening to him call a game is torture.

I wonder how draft rumors about someone like mallett get started. After all the, research only the public intoxication seemed to stick. They even said he was not a team captain, that seemed like something easy to check but they did not bother. That was there reason for saying he was not a leader. Rob Rang had that in his scouting report and he is someone I think is pretty good.

First off I do believe there's a basis for some of the things about Mallett. But, not for others. And you bring up a great example. It's because of this dog pile mentality that nobody bothers to do even some basic vetting on whether or not Mallett was a captain. And we're talking VERY basic. All you have to do is watch an Arkansas game and see him go out for the coin flip or something, the dude's a captain. But it's like, someone checks Mallett's profile on the Arkansas official site, it doesn't mention anything about him being a captain, and whoever does it is like "That makes sense, he probably wasn't, I'm going to put down that he wasn't a captain in either year without doing any basic checking".

That's the dog pile mentality at work. It's understandable, it just is what it is.
